TLC’s 90 Day: The Single Life is a once-popular 90 Day Fiancé spin-off that seems to have worn out its welcome in the franchise. Though viewership still appears to be steady, complaints about the series are at an all-time high. If fans’ interest in the show continues to dwindle the way it has been, the network may be wise to give The Single Life the axe.

Fans were initially excited for the spin-off, but their opinions eventually soured as the show failed to meet their high expectations. Season 1 features several cast members who turned out to be duds, and some, like “Big” Ed Brown were actively boycotted for their actions on and off the show. But the network decided to power ahead with season 2, which garnered even more controversy from fans. Now, season 3 is rumored to be underway, but based on the way viewers have turned on the show, TLC might be throwing good money after bad.

 Explicit Content Disgusts Fans

One of the distinguishing factors about The Single Life is its frank sexual discussions. The spin-off is a Discovery+ exclusive show, so it can get away with more graphic material than the core series. However, fans are thoroughly grossed out. In the season 2 Tell-All, Stephanie Matto went into explicit detail about her recent sex vacation, including specific description of her partner spitting in her mouth. Even the most sex-positive viewer felt like it was T.M.I., and believe there have been many instances where The Single Life crossed the line.

Terrible Casting Decisions

TLC has a serious problem with not vetting cast members before casting them on the franchise, and it’s become very apparent on The Single Life. It almost seems like the network went out of its way to pick the least likable stars to fill season 2, and the thoroughly dislikable cast leaves fans more irritated than entertained. Some of the cast members are actively problematic—Ed Brown is known to have abusive tendencies and now Syngin Colchester has abuse allegations swirling around him as well.

Audience Eye-Rolls

The Single Life seems to overall be one of the most contrived shows in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. The majority of scenes feel staged and fake, and many of the dates that have been featured on the show appear to be set up by production, as nearly all of them fail to lead to even a short relationship. There aren’t the high-stakes that exist on 90 Day Fiancé and other spin-offs, and The Single Life seasons just seem to meander along until they’re over. The show already feels old and it’s just barely finished season 2.

Although 90 Day: The Single Life was a decent idea, the execution of the spin-off left a lot to be desired. The only thing fans seem to like about the show is complaining about it, but that kind of intense vitriol eventually fizzles out. By the time season 3 airs, TLC could find that viewer interest has all but evaporated, and it would be prudent to scrap the show now.
