What happened to Melanie and Devar from 90 Day Fiancé after season 3? Fans have taken to social media platforms pondering whether the embattled couple was able to overcome family pressures, societal issues, and the K-1 visa process to make a go of it.

The couple made its debut on season 3 and quickly became fan favorites. They met while Melanie was on holiday in Devar’s country, Jamaica. She happened to be staying at the resort where he worked. They went for a jog on their first date, and romance later ensued. By the end of the trip, Devar proposed to her and she accepted. Viewers loved Devar’s flirty optimism as well as Melanie’s fierceness and devotion to her relationship – despite some serious push back from her disapproving sister. Melanie also had concerns that Devar was far more concerned with supporting his family back home rather than providing for her and her son, Hunter. Still, they stuck with each other and were married within the 90 day window that Devar’s visa required. Producers later updated fans on Melanie and Devar by featuring them on 90 Day Fiancé: What Now? Devar was away at school as an underwater welder. They were basically working their way through a long-distance relationship. They did mention they were planning on starting a family together, so it looked like they had plenty of goals to keep their love on track.

Cut to 2018: This time when she and Devar appeared on 90 Day Fiance, their relationship looked like it was on life support. Melanie gave birth to the couple’s first daughter, Avah, in November 2017.  Devar seemed stressed out over his new role as a father. Melanie alluded to Devar having a drinking problem. She went on to portray their marriage as being in peril. Fans might even recall Devar appearing drunk on the show. Concerned viewers took to the internet to express concern over the future of one of the franchise’s most relatable unions. One Reddit user wrote:

“Okay so I haven’t seen much of the couple besides what they post in the 3rd hour of 90 day fiance but Devar was crazy drunk and it seems he has a serious problem. looks like he is stressing from the baby, his wife seems to boss him around a bit when it comes to the baby stuff and that’s why he feels “disrespected” maybe ? but if I was her , with a new born, I would give him an ultimatum to either get sober in x amount of days, see a therapist or she should leave because he was acting so inappropriate.”

Devar and Melanie join a long list of other 90 Day Fiancé couples who have married and had babies. We’ve seen Robert and Anny announce the birth of their daughter Brenda, as well as Ariela, who gave birth to baby Avi on 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way. Melanie and Devar are also among a growing number of interracial couples within the franchise. From Jay and Ashley, to Angela and Michael, viewers are seeing many couples that represent the changing landscape of 21st century romance. Despite some earlier growing pains in their relationship and during the expansion of their family, Devar is a wonderfully devoted father and husband. Sure, there have been whispers here and there that this couple is kaput, but so far, they appear to still be together.

Melanie and Devar have fought to carve out a marriage that speaks to their needs and desires. What appeared to be a lusty hookup in an island paradise has grown into a fabulous portrait of a modern family. Devar is thriving in his job as an underwater welder. Melanie has even reportedly received a promotion on her job. Little Avah is breaking hearts all over the internet. She’s a picture-perfect combo of both her parents. Devar is also a proud stepdad, showing off photos of his stepson, Hunter, on Instagram. There’s still no word on when TLC will give fans another update on this family. Who knows? Maybe they’ll pop up on an upcoming season of Pillow Talk.
