With a new season of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? airing, it’s time to refresh our memories about one of the couples that will be returning, Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa. The Samoan couple had a rocky time during Happily Ever After? season 5. They dealt with family trouble, arguments over money, and questionable COVID-19 habits. So, here are all the important details to remember from this pair.

Kalani met Asuelu when she was on vacation in Asuelu’s home country of Samoa. At the time, Kalani and Asuelu bonded over their Samoan heritage, and Asuelu eventually left his island life behind to live with Kalani in Utah. Kalani and Asuelu got pregnant with their first child, Oliver, and then got married in 2018. They now have another son named Kennedy, and in the first episode of Happily Ever After? season 6, they revealed that they’re contemplating having a third child. However, after seeing all of their relationship problems in season 5, many fans don’t think that having another kid or buying a house is a good idea.

Happily Ever After? season 5 started off with tension over a family trip. Asuelu Pulaa wanted to go to Samoa to visit his family, hoping to bring his sons with him. However, Kalani Faagata shot his plan down. The kids did not have all the vaccinations they’d need to enter Samoa, and Kalani worried about their health. Moreover, this was before COVID-19. Later, when COVID-19 reached them in Utah, Asuelu again showed disregard for his family’s health. For instance, Kalani called him out for playing sports with his friends without wearing a mask. She even thought about making him move out so that he wouldn’t infect the rest of the family.

This wasn’t the first time that Kalani had an issue with Asuelu’s game-playing. At the beginning of season 5, Asuelu boarded a bus in California to try and go back home to Utah because Kalani expressed anger at him playing volleyball with his friends after work instead of coming home to his family. They were able to forgive each other and actually seemed to bond later in the season over Asuelu’s family issues. Kalani pointed out that Asuelu’s mother was asking him for money he didn’t have. Asuelu agreed with Kalani and stood up to his mother, refusing to help her before he helps his own children. However, Asuelu jumped back onto his family’s side after Kalani said that she would have beat up Asuelu’s sister Tammy if Tammy had laid a hand on her.

Kalani has admitted that Happily Ever After? has actually helped her relationship. She said it made Asuelu realize that his words were not ok, especially since everyone online was taking her side. Even though season 5 ended with Kalani seriously considering divorce, the couple was clearly able to stay together and are now back in the spotlight as a couple on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 6.
