90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way fans would like to learn more about Deavan Clegg and Jihoon Lee’s Korean wedding tradition ‘Hahm’.

In the recent episodes of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, viewers watched as Jihoon’s relationship with Deavan started to get back on track. Jihoon is trying his best to be a man, but is failing miserably by both American and Korean standards. Even though Deavan was furious that her second trip to South Korea started out so badly, the couple has tried their best to give it another go, which will include a Korean wedding. Fans are about to see what it takes to plan a big fat Korean wedding.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fans already got a tiny look into Korean tradition when they watched the couple celebrate the 100th day of life for their son, Taeyang. It is deeply important for families to commemorate the baby having met this pivotal milestone. And now TLC viewers will get a firsthand look behind the Korean tradition of Hahm.

Hahm in Korean means box, and most would relate this tradition to a wedding chest in American culture, where one would store household goods such as linens in it for the time when they would be married off. The purpose behind them was to have the newlyweds almost set up for their new lives together. TLC viewers will likely see Jihoon carry out an old tradition where, after announcing their engagement, the groom has to send some presents to the bride’s family. These presents used to be delivered in a special box called “hahm.” The box traditionally included three objects: “honseo” (marriage paper), “ch’aedan” (red and blue fabrics), and “honsu” (valuable items). The hahm was carried by a group of the groom’s friends, which viewers will see are wearing squid masks, which are meant to ward off evil spirits. Jihoon will show Elicia and her husband all the gifts, which include a pair of wooden ducks called “kireogi” to bring good luck. Devan’s parents told cameras that they were honored to be a part of the culture, and then had to tell Jihoon to go search for their daughter since she was hiding according to custom.

Even though we know that the couple does not work in the end, thanks to their social media fights, it was nice for viewers to be able to see and submerge themselves into another world that they may not ever get to travel to or see. Fans are hoping that their quick, one-hour wedding will go smoothly for the bride and groom.
