Brian Hanvey is the latest person to join the 90 Day Fiancé franchise by association. He just married Jess Caroline, one of the stars of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? His quick marriage to Jess, who only recently ended things with Colt Johnson, piqued viewers’ curiosities, and it was quickly discovered that he is a musician who met Jess through his friends Eric and Larissa. Here’s everything we know about his music career.

Brian and Jess can thank 90 Day Fiance for their nuptials, which are now making headlines. It was Hanvey’s career as a musician that led to their meeting by way of Larissa and Eric, who starred awkwardly in the music video for his song “If I Scream In My Sleep.”

Before ever meeting Larissa and Eric in Vegas, Brian was pursuing his music career in Detroit, Michigan (via ClickOnDetroit). He began making music with his friends in 2013, who eventually solidified into a band called Leave It To Tragedy. They were signed to King Shea Records, and had some success. Their music videos all hit around 2,200 views on YouTube and are full of generally positive comments. With no official band page to read up on their style, it can best be described as pop-punk with a touch of metal. The band deals with heavy themes, with lyrics such as, “Corrupted mind with memories of a knife, guns and flashing lives; the night I ran for my life.” Hanvey was a vocalist and bass player for the band until its breakup around 2017. In 2018, the band Vegas Lights picked up Hanvey as their new vocalist. The band described itself as Trap-Pop-Rock on their Twitter page, though Hanvey called it metalcore in his Spotify “about” section. The band made two albums together. Vegas Lights’ most popular single is called Cali Ya, which has 27,000 views on YouTube. Cali Ya details a relationship on the west coast that has gone south, singing, “But now my feet are in the sand Cali ya/She’s driving gone off the xans Cali ya/Heard she crashed/Smashed her head up on the dash.” They played that song and others at Warped Tour in 2018, a rite of passage for any decent pop-punk band. It’s unclear why the band went quiet later in 2018, but since then Hanvey has focused on his solo career.

Hanvey’s solo work is more pop-focused with some trap influences. For his first solo music video, the casting of Larissa and Eric was a good choice, despite their questionable acting, because the video has 72,000 views. His second single, No Trust, has a similar sound, but only 8,000 views. Good news for Jess: It seems Hanvey is a loyal guy—the guitarist in his new video seems to be his former Leave It To Tragedy bandmate.

Most recently, Hanvey switched up his style yet again for his first acoustic song. “Love Me Til You’re Old” is his third single as a solo artist, and it’s dedicated to his new wife Jess Caroline. There’s no music video yet, but if he’s smart he’ll capitalize on the 90DF audience and cast Jess as its star. The song is sweetly layered with his vocals and a strumming guitar, and no doubt melted Jess’s heart. His lyrics are lighter than usual, including promises like “You’ll have my heart forever/No matter where we go.” With all the stylistic fluctuation over the years, it’s a mystery where Hanvey will take his music next, but he definitely has a larger audience than ever before waiting to see what his next move will be.
