The Isle of Armor in Pokemon Sword & Shield allows the player to face one of two challenges. This guide will help players defeat the Tower of Waters and the Tower of Darkness. For the first time ever in the Pokemon series, a mainline title has been given paid DLC. The Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass was created to continue to build on the world of the Galar region. The first part of the expansion pass released this June, offering a new wild area along with several classic Pokemon to encounter. Although, it also comes along with new story content as well. Here’s how players can defeat the Tower of Waters and the Tower of Darkness in Pokemon Sword & Shield.
These special towers can only be accessed once during the player’s time on the Isle of Armor. The player will be given the legendary Pokemon, Kubfu, as a reward for completing the Dojo’s Trials. The trainer will build a bond with this Kubfu as they travel around the Isle of Armor, seeing the sights and going on adventures. Once the bond between Kubfu and the trainer is fully formed, they will be given the task to choose between one of two towers on the island. The Tower of Waters and the Tower of Darkness. Depending on which tower the player selects will decide what evolutionary form Kubfu will take when it reaches the top. Here’s how players can defeat either tower.

The player can only select one of the two towers. Once the challenge has begun, the player will not be permitted to leave until they lose or emerge victoriously. Also, the player can only bring Kubfu as their Pokemon. The Tower of Darkness is made easier since Dark-type Pokemon are weak to fighting-type Pokemon like Kubfu. It is also recommended to have Kubfu to level 70 before entering the towers. Here is what trainers can expect.
- Tower of Waters Floor 1: Level 65 Psyduck
- Tower of Waters Floor 2: Level 66 Krabby
- Tower of Waters Floor 3: Level 67 Krabby
- Tower of Waters Floor 4: Level 68 Poliwhirl
- Tower of Waters Floor 5: Level 70 Kubfu
- Tower of Darkness Floor 1: Level 65 Zorua
- Tower of Darkness Floor 2: Level 66 Scraggy
- Tower of Darkness Floor 3: Level 67 Inkay
- Tower of Darkness Floor 4: Level 68 Krokorok
- Tower of Darkness Floor 5: Level 70 Kubfu
Floors 1-4 of either tower is much easier when compared to the last. Make sure to heal between matches by bringing along Hyper Potions. The tower should go down easily if Kubfu is level 70. The final battle will be against another Kubfu. Outspeed it to take it down quickly.
After defeating the Tower, the trainer will be able to evolve Kubfu into Urshifu, each with a different fighting style depending on the tower the player has tackled. Although, there is still much to do on the Isle of Armor afterward. The second half of the DLC is scheduled to release later this Fall. The Crown Tundra will bring along over 100 older Pokemon and a new wild area similar to the Isle of Armor. The full expansion pass will bring over 200 older Pokemon, some of which are fan favorites. This is a big deal for the series moving forward on how it plans to distribute new content.
Pokemon Sword & Shield is available now on Nintendo Switch.
