Daredevil, Jessica Jones & Luke Cage Featured in New Disney+ Ad
The once Netflix shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are featured in a new Disney+ ad prompting their arrival to the streaming service. Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe made its way to streaming, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders premiered on Netflix to (mostly) critical acclaim. Despite this acclaim and campaigns à la #SaveDaredevil, Disney/Marvel Studios ended their relationship with Netflix/ABC and canceled the Defenders universe in 2018.
As those shows remained on Netflix in the years that would follow, fans were left to wonder if, when, and how characters like Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) would officially become a part of the MCU. In the wake of Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin showing up in MCU projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Disney+’s Hawkeye, it was announced that those shows would leave Netflix at the end of February 2022. Last week, Disney officially announced that every season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Punisher, The Defenders, and ABC’s Agents of Shield would become available to stream on Disney+ starting March 16, 2022.
Disney+ recently released a promo video for its March slate, including Turning Red, Driving Home 2 U, Moon Knight, and, of course, the Defenders. The clip features Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage with The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders absent. Check it out below:

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Defenders’ MCU implementation, as well as the shows’ availability on Disney+, regards their original TV-MA ratings. As the streaming service adds shows like Daredevil, so does it add more parental controls. On March 16, subscribers will be asked to update their settings to either allow TV-MA content or put it behind a PIN. Restricted TV-14 accounts will not be able to watch Frank Castle wreak havoc while adults can re-watch Daredevil’s hallway fights as many times as they want. These safety measures will apply to each individual account so that parents can manage their children’s profiles.
It remains to be seen if Netflix’s Marvel shows will be granted “Legacy” status on Disney+—which would imply the shows are officially not part of MCU canon. Regardless, their arrival on the streamer, as well as the parental controls, mark a huge win for comic book fans. A major concern for fans has been that Marvel Studios wouldn’t be able to do TV-MA/R-rated characters like Daredevil, Punisher, and Deadpool justice in the MCU. Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, Deadpool 3 is in the works, and the Defenders are gradually showing their faces throughout the universe. However, the fact that more adult content will be appearing on Disney+ doesn’t bode well for Hulu—which is also owned by Disney. Suffice to say, Logan might be making its way to Disney+ sooner rather than later.
