Actress Amber Heard shares a new acrobatic workout video as part of her preparation for her role in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Heard will be returning for her third DCEU film as Princess Mera, the ally and love interest of Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), otherwise known as the King of Atlantis. Her character first appeared in Justice League before getting a more major role in 2018’s Aquaman.
Aquaman 2 began filming this month, with Warner Bros. eyeing a December 2022 release date. Most of the plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being. However, Orm/Oceanmaster (Patrick Wilson) and David Hyde/Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will again be joining Heard and Momoa. James Wan is also heading the project after directing the original Aquaman. Prior to the start of filming, many of the Aquaman 2 actors have been getting in shape for their roles, with Momoa, of all people, finding himself a bit behind on his workouts.
Recently, Heard shared a video on Twitter of her doing an acrobatic workout to get Mera prepped for her return to the ocean kingdom. She’s using some serious core strength to keep herself up on the rings, and she seems to be having fun while doing a few flips. Heard captioned the clip, “Flipping out #Aquaman2” and her original post can be seen below.

Prior to Wan announcing Heard’s return, it was unclear whether or not she’d be reprising her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Rumors that she was fired emerged online after some fans called for her removal amidst legal battles with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Depp was removed from Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts 3, yet Heard was allowed to remain part of Aquaman 2‘s cast. It’s clear that Heard’s Mera isn’t leaving the DCEU anytime soon, and she’s putting in work to get in tip-top shape for her character’s return.
Despite mixed reviews of 2018’s Aquaman, the box office numbers clearly dictated that Warner Bros. would be making a sequel. Aquaman was the first film in the DCEU to cross the $1 billion mark, making it a major success. The sequel just began filming, so filmmakers have a little over a year to get the story together before its debut, four years after the original. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will need to up the ante to follow in its predecessor’s footsteps, and getting the characters of Atlantis in prime superhero shape is just a small part of the process.
