One of the Flash’s most interesting villains is Psycho-Pirate, a character he hasn’t seen since Crisis on Infinite Earths. Now, the Crisis villain is returning for the first time since Barry Allen’s death in the fan-favorite comic book. Psycho-Pirate and the Flash have a long history, but they haven’t been seen together since the Multiverse shattering event. They haven’t shared many panels together, but their reuniting is huge because of the importance of their brief interactions many years ago.

In Crisis on Infinite Earths, Psycho-Pirate was recruited by the Monitor for his unique abilities to call on the heroes of the Multiverse. This was in preparation for the Anti-Monitor’s impending arrival. But it wasn’t long before the ex-criminal switched sides out of greed as the Anti-Monitor lured him in, promising him an entire world. In the days leading up to the Flash’s death, Barry was captured by the Anti-Monitor’s forces and was confined to the space where Psycho-Pirate was present. Managing to escape, the Flash grabbed Psycho-Pirate and forced him to warp the Anti-Monitor’s minions’ emotions into hatred, turning them against him. The Flash’s plan was incredibly smart as it was all a distraction so that he could disable the Antimatter energy core and destroy it, saving billions of lives but sacrificing himself in the process.

In Infinite Frontier #3 by Joshua Williamson, Xermanico, and Romulo Fajardo Jr., Barry Allen will be running into Psycho-Pirate for the first time since his “death and rebirth.” Just like in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Psycho-Pirate will not be working alone. This is a huge deal as it’s likely that history could repeat itself, especially with Psycho-Pirate having an even bigger bad behind him. The Flash will have to step lightly if he wants to survive what’s to come, as it’s possible that Psycho-Pirate is working for Darkseid, the supposed villain of Infinite Frontier. This issue will see Barry working with the Justice Incarnate, the Justice League of the Multiverse. He was recruited in Infinite Frontier #0 by the leader of the group, President Superman. Barry has become the Flash of the Multiverse, where his job is to monitor any changes in the newly formed Omniverse. He will be racing from planet to planet and will probably be the first person to notify the Justice Incarnate of any abnormalities. All of this speed around will lead him, somehow, to Psycho-Pirate who is up to something devious. DC has teased that the villain working with Psycho-Pirate could mean terrible things for the universe, but also the Flash as he will be one of the first exposed to their plans.

President Superman is another key factor in determining whether Barry’s interaction with Psycho-Pirate will go south. Apparently, if the hero sticks around to help win the day, Flash will be okay. But, it’s likely that things won’t go to plan as Infinite Frontier has been teased as a crisis-level event. With Darkseid’s impending presence, the Justice Incarnate must band together to build a defense strong enough to stop them. Find out what will happen in the new Infinite Frontier mini-series coming June 22!
