A tweet from AC: Landmarks shows artwork from an Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla concept artist where the female Eivor has aged, potentially indicating that future Valhalla DLC may involve an aged Eivor. Although this is unconfirmed, it would not be the first time that Ubisoft has included an aged playable assassin in the DLC for a game. It is also possible that this is artwork from the beginning of development on the game, when developers were trying to decide how old to make Eivor in the base game. Regardless, the possibility of another aged assassin DLC is exciting.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla takes place during the Viking invasion of Britain between 872 and 878 AD. Gamers play as Eivor, who can be male or female without any story-related changes. Eivor, along with their adopted brother Sigurd, sails for England to establish a new homestead and kingdom for the Vikings of their clan away from Norway and the king’s rule. In the present-day story, players control returning character Layla Hassan, who is trying to stop the Earth’s destruction while also keeping away from other assassin teams after what happened at the end of the previous game, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. The game was released in November 2020 on all consoles.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the post, three pictures of the female Eivor can be seen (via AC: Landmarks/Twitter). The first is a picture of the aged Eivor, while the second and third show side-by-side views of Eivor as she is in the base game (left) and what she looks like aged (right). The second image is from the neck up, while the third shows her full body in armor. The key differences are that her face is not as smooth and has wrinkles, healed scars and lines (like crow’s feet). These images, by concept artist Daniel Atanasov, are exceptionally similar to the female Eivor that is in-game. There are no pictures of the male version of Eivor, but it can be assumed that he would be aged in a similar manner.

One thing that players loved about classic Assassin’s Creed protagonist Ezio was that his character growth was visible over three games (Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations). He even received a mini-movie, giving fans a look at how Ezio’s life ended. The last game where players were able to see what the assassins were like as they aged was in the Jack the Ripper DLC in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. Though players were able to see time progression with Bayek in Assassin’s Creed: Origins, it was not a later-in-life DLC or view of his character. By possibly including a DLC where Eivor has visibly aged and that takes place later in their life, Ubisoft could be continuing their effort to bring beloved aspects of AC from older games to newer ones.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla did a lot of things right. Of course, there are some bugs as well as issues and concerns, but overall it lived up to Ubisoft’s initial pledge to bring back the hidden blade and original gameplay loved by fans, blended with the new mechanics players have enjoyed in newer installments. Ubisoft is even working hard to make the present-day story more enjoyable and relevant again. If this leak is true and Ubisoft is making a DLC with an older Eivor, the company will be delivering a more complete story of this assassin as well as echoing the story structure of older games.
