Though there are many notable film duos, Kevin James and Adam Sandler have some of the most genuine, friendly collaborations.

Both of these successful men have acted and produced, but they both got their big break doing stand-up comedy. From there, the two continued to collaborate on comedy films that brought them together, both on and off-screen. For fans of the pair who are looking for their best movies, these are the ones that come out on top.

10 Hubie Halloween (2020) – 5.2

In this Netflix Original, Sandler stars as Hubie Dubois who, though being mocked by both children and adults, investigates and discovers a villain in the town of Salem, Massachusetts.

This film is arguably one of Sandler’s best Netflix movies, which may have had something to do with the casting of Kevin James. In this humorous Halloween film, James plays the police sergeant who refuses to take Hubie seriously. In this way, the two actors portray a new but equally hilarious pair of characters, in which one works to devalue the other.

9 Zookeeper (2011) – 5.2

In this film, Griffin (James) gets help from his zoo animals in order to find love and keep him from leaving his less-than-attractive job.

Though not the most successful or positively reviewed film, Zookeeper did win the “Top Box Office Films” award from ASCAP. Adam Sandler did not play a role in the movie, but he did collaborate with James and others to produce it. Although he wasn’t seen on screen, Sandler’s interest likely had to do with his previous collaborations with James.

Though this film was one of the lowest-rated collaborations listed on IMDb, it’s notable that the movie paid homage to Sandler’s real-life manager, Sandy Wernick.

7 Grown Ups 2 (2013) 5.3

Grown Ups 2 is a continuation of the original characters’ lives, taking place in their hometown after Lenny (Sandler) moves back to be close to friends and family.

This film is one of Sandler’s most successful movies, despite it not receiving positive reviews. Though not as successful as the first film (according to the rating of IMDb and box office grossing profits), it brings back the humorous relationship of these five friends, and Sandler and James’ characters are just as funny as the others.

6 Pixels (2015) – 5.6

Cast of Pixels stand side by side looking determined.

This film is a comedic story centered around aliens who misinterpret an arcade game video feed as an act of war, causing them to attack Earth in the form of classic games.

While Pixels is one of the worst movies of 2015, it’s another example of James and Sandler portraying a genuine friendship on-screen. Its poor reviews are based on the belief it was a harsh interpretation of Patrick Jean’s short film but even without the best of success, it’s clear the two would have had a blast making this film.

5 I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007) – 5.9

This movie is about two firefighters, Chuck and Larry. Chuck (Sandler) agrees to be in a domestic partnership with Larry (James) so that he can receive benefits that would take care of his children if anything happened to him.

This film is controversial and hasn’t received the best of reviews on IMDb due to the homosexual stereotypes and crude remarks regarding gay people within the film. However, the dynamic of a friend doing something so meaningful for his friend is endearing. The two characters also learned to be more appropriate towards LGBTQ+ people by the end of the movie and encourage their close-minded friends to do so as well.

4 Grown Ups (2010) – 5.9

Adam Sandler and Kevin James go down a waterslide in Grown Ups.

In Grown Ups, five good friends go to a lake house for the 4th of July weekend to commemorate their childhood basketball coach who recently passed away.

Adam Sandler and Kevin James are two of these close friends and their interaction in the movie proves that they have the on-screen chemistry that makes their friendship look so natural. Their ability to make audiences laugh is certainly part of the reason the film won “Favorite Comedy Movie” in the People’s Choice Awards in 2011.

3 Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018) – 6.3

This film is the third in the franchise, with Adam Sandler voicing Dracula and Kevin James voicing Frankenstein in all three. Sandler’s Dracula is one of the funniest characters, winning the Kid’s Choice Award for “Favorite Male Voice from an Animated Movie.”

Though a continuation of the story from the original two movies, this film follows the gang as they take a cruise for monsters who love the sea. There’s a new villain introduced too, adding a bit more suspense as they discover the monster-hating Van Helsing has arranged the cruise.

2 Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015) – 6.7

This film was even more successful than the original, grossing more than 100 million more at the box office. This animated sequel is a continuation of the original, following the story of Dracula’s daughter and husband as they raise their son.

This franchise has been a wildly favored animated film, winning the Kids’ Choice Awards for “Favorite Animated Movie.” Though Dracula has more of a role than Frank in this sequel, the monsters continue to make a humorous, friendly duo.

1 Hotel Transylvania (2012) – 7.1

Sandler and James’s characters in Hotel Transylvania are a couple of the most likable in the franchise. In fact, the two voice these characters in the three first installments of the successful animated franchise.

And even though their faces never appear on the screen, the two manage to pull off a fun couple of characters that prove to be fan favorites. It’s no surprise that these comedians, despite not being involved in many animated films, portrayed characters the whole family could love.
