Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: 10 Best Character Costumes, Ranked

As the team faced challenges, victories, and losses on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., their costumes evolved and transformed. Every character underwent a style change from season to season as their experiences shaped who they became. From the transition of Skye into Daisy Johnson to Fitz and Simmons becoming more than just lab nerds, each character altered their wardrobe to indicate the change in personality.

But the heroes aren’t the only characters on the show with style. Some of the most evil villains have a killer sense of fashion alongside their murderous vendettas. Here are the 10 best costumes on the series, ranked.

10 Nerdy May and Coulson

On a mission to a Cybertek facility after Grant Ward’s betrayal, Phil Coulson and Melinda May go undercover as versions of Fitz and Simmons. To sell the idea that they are S.H.I.E.L.D. eggheads, they have to dress the part.

Both are dressed in complementary navy blue sweaters with a collared shirt underneath and impeccable ties to bring the ensembles together. The stylish black-framed glasses are the cherry on top to sell Coulson and May as the nerdy Fitz and Simmons. Once they have the look, they just need the lingo.

9 Bobbi Morse Undercover at HYDRA

Much to Simmons’ surprise and delight, the HYDRA Security Chief turns out to be Agent Bobbi Morse of S.H.I.E.L.D.. When Simmons is exposed as a double-agent, Bobbi steps in to save her in an iconic ensemble.

Sporting a stylish long, burgundy coat over black pants with knee-high black boots, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent looks ready to kick ass and take names. Her signature battle staves turn the costume from a runway look to a warrior’s uniform. The whole look is completed with a brown wig because oddly enough, HYDRA only takes brunettes.

8 Elena Rodriguez’s Robotic Arms

Elena, affectionately known as Yo-Yo, lost her arms in battle against Ruby. S.H.I.E.L.D. supplied her with a robotic pair created by Mack. The costume stood out with its attention to detail in its shape and construction.

The wires and molding of Yo-Yo’s robotic arms mimic the sinew, muscles, and veins of the human body as they appear beneath the skin. Moreover, including this detail from the comics adds another layer of representation on the show. Elena’s new life as an Inhuman with a disability takes time to get accustomed to.

7 Deathlok Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Mike Peterson returned as Deathlok when the team fought to close the Fear Dimension rift that wreaked havoc. As Coulson encountered an illusion of Peterson, the real Deathlok, gathered in a team by Deke Shaw, killed him and saved Coulson.

Deathlok comes with a new costume. This look consists of a dark metal breastplate with red strips and metal arm guards over a lightweight black fabric. The costume comes with an upgraded rocket blaster in his biomechanical arm. Deathlok was made to instill fear for evil, but he becomes a force for good.

6 Daisy Quake Johnson

Chloe Bennet’s character has undergone the most transformations since the show’s inception. She started as a street-smart hacker named Skye, but soon evolved into a tough S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. She then became the leader of an Inhuman group of superheroes.

Her latest costume in Season 6 culminated in a tight, textured black uniform made for fighting. But the purple accents on the ensemble that match the highlights in her hair show that there is still a part of Skye that lives within Daisy. The gauntlets that became part of her Inhuman identity complete the costume.

5 Future Leopold Fitz

When Fitz travels to the future where the Earth is destroyed, his outfit gives off a bit of an Indiana Jones vibe. He sports a black leather jacket over his usual collared shirt and brown pants. A red scarf wrapped around his throat adds a rustic flair that gives him the air of an adventurer.

But this particular style isn’t the first time the audience sees it. Future Fitz’s new look is reminiscent of the newest character, Deke. It’s one of the earliest hints as to the two characters’ relationship.

4 Ruby Hale, Destroyer of Worlds

Ruby Hale’s assassin costume creates an interesting parallel to Daisy’s. Both outfits consist of a sharp cut in the shoulders and a streamlined appearance in the torso. But instead of gauntlets, Ruby wears elbow-length black gloves. Rather than purple accents, Ruby’s costume is black and gray.

The creepy hood and mask add a sinister flair to the villain’s wardrobe. Considering her strange obsession with Quake, it’s easy to interpret Ruby’s costume as a twisted version of the hero’s. Ruby doesn’t have Inhuman powers, but she is fast with her vibranium ring blades.

3 Sinara

Kasius’ right-hand woman wears a simple ensemble, but that’s because she lets her skills do the talking for her. Her dark gray tunic dress comes to an asymmetrical cut at the hem, giving the look the only real flair it needs.

A single, diagonal stripe across the chest with a black outline and white inner line gives the impression of a militaristic look, which makes sense as Sinara is like a general. Elbow-length black leather gloves leave everyone understanding that she is not a woman to be messed with.

2 Ghost Rider

It’s hard not to attract attention as a skeleton ghost with a skull on fire, but Robbie Reyes has a style of his own. When he’s not the vengeful Ghost Rider, Robbie is a regular guy trying to do right by his little brother.

His signature black leather jacket with matching riding gloves show that this man knows his motorcycle and how to handle it. The white square pattern in the center around the zipper almost looks like a portal waiting to be opened. The Ghost Rider does come from another dimension, after all.

1 Madame Hydra

When Aida goes Skynet on S.H.I.E.L.D. and drags them into the Framework, she also gives herself a makeover. She reinvents herself as Madame Hydra, the ruler alongside an evil Doctor Leopold Fitz. Her look consists of a vibrant emerald green waist-length coat buttoned all the way to the top over black pants.

Black leather bands at her elbows and around her neck give her a militaristic appearance to go with the despotic world she’s created. A thin black belt around the waist with the HYDRA emblem adorns the ensemble. The green highlights in her hair to match the coat add a nice touch.
