AirPods Pro Conversation Boost: What It Does & How To Turn It On
While AirPods Pro are great for music, they’re also smart earbuds that include a relatively new ‘Conversation Boost’ feature. In a crowded area or a noisy environment, it can often be difficult to understand someone and a little help might be all that’s needed to make a big difference. While not a replacement for a hearing aid, Apple’s Conversation Boost could be a good solution for anyone that spends time in a busy workspace or that has a mild hearing impairment.
Conversation Boost arrived along with additional Find My capabilities that allow users to locate AirPods Pro and AirPods Max using the Find My Items tab instead of the devices tab. This means Apple’s two most expensive AirPods can now be tracked down more easily if misplaced. Lost Mode can also be enabled, which provides a way to share contact information and a message with anyone who finds and scans the missing AirPods.
Apple’s Conversation Boost enhances the ability of AirPods Pro wearers to hear and understand face-to-face communication more easily. Apple uses computational audio techniques along with the AirPods Pro’s beamforming microphones to identify voices that are coming from in front of the wearer and increase the clarity. At the same time, background noise is reduced. This feature should make it much easier to carry on a conversation in a crowded or noisy area. While useful to all, it is particularly noteworthy for anyone with a hearing impairment.
How To Enable Conversation Boost For AirPods
Conversation Boost helps with communication when background sounds might otherwise interfere. The option to turn it on is found in the Accessibility tab of the Settings app and under the Audio/Visual section. Tucked into the Transparency Mode settings, a toggle switch for Conversation Boost can be found. Once enabled, sliders will become available in the Control Center, which is accessed with a swipe down from the top right of the iPhone screen, to make adjustments to the Ambient Noise level.
With a growing number of people being diagnosed with a hearing impairment, having an option to increase clarity and reduce background noise is all the more important, and AirPods Pro have the processing power along with an array of microphones to help solve this problem. Apple’s Conversation Boost is a nice refinement of the computational audio capabilities of AirPods Pro and might prove helpful to many users.
