The seemingly down-on-their-luck Brown family members from Alaskan Bush People are making much more than the fans may think. Most reality shows come with quite the salary for their stars, but the Browns have money slipping in from other sources as well, accumulating quite a pretty penny.

With currently eleven seasons of a family roughing it in the wild, hunting, fishing, living off the land in the Alaskan frontier, Alaskan Bush People follows the Brown family. The patriarch, Billy, 66, and wife Ami Brown, 55, live with their seven children. Their five sons, Matt, Bam Bam, Bear, Gabe, and Noah, 36, 34, 31, 29, and 26, respectively, sit at the top as the oldest. Younger daughters, Bird, 24, and Rain, 16, round out the group of kids. The fans have watched them live off the land and even trade fish for dental care over the course of the show, but they are way better off than it may initially seem.

The Sun reports that the Brown family’s net worth is around 60 million dollars, with each Alaskan Bush People family member pulling in between 40,000 to 60,000 per paycheck. According to the report, good ol’ Billy is actually raking in 500,000 dollars with his paychecks. They may be living practically in the wild, but they have enough to give all seven family members a shining silver spoon. In addition, the Browns have a knack for finding work where they can, never staying idle for too long. Furthermore, according to Looper, the check they get from the Discovery Channel isn’t their only source of revenue. For instance, season 3 featured them starting a small hauling business. Even though the business had a few hiccups, they made some money off of it before relocating to Washington State in early 2019. When they moved out there, they purchased a 435-acre home in the North Cascade Mountains – an expense that they had no trouble making.

A lot of families go through money-related scandals, and the Alaskan Bush People stars have faced their own adversities. In 2015, Billy and Bam Bam filed paperwork to receive a Permanent Dividend Check, which money that is available to Alaskan residents if they intend to remain in the state indefinitely. Overall, this gave them between 1,000 and 2,000 dollars a year. However, the pair lied on their application. They were living somewhere else when they claimed to be residing in Alaska, which enacted a case of fraud on their part. They received money initially, but after some smart tracking software uncovered the truth, they were convicted, given jail time, and issued a fine.

Despite the now lack of money troubles, the Alaskan Bush People family itself still has its own issues. Although Matt left to deal with his health, he didn’t show up to Gabe’s wedding because of some tension between the two. Even Bear has been through his own issues as his engagement to Raiven Adams ended abruptly, even though she was pregnant, and she even had a restraining order against him for a time.
