Disney has a wide range of incredible villains, all of whom really help to make their individual movies as entertaining as possible. Because there are so many amazing characters, some do end up slipping under the radar, and Alice In Wonderland’s, Queen Of Hearts is one of those characters.

She’s not spoken about as frequently as the likes of Gaston or Scar, however, that doesn’t mean she’s not as entertaining or scary. The Queen Of Hearts is an excellent character and one that is often very underrated, which she shouldn’t be, due to the fact she is truly one of Disney’s greatest villains.

10 She’s Utterly Ruthless

Disney villains are supposed to be scary, but The Queen Of Hearts is arguably the most ruthless of all Disney villains, as her answer to absolutely everything is to chop the heads off people.

It doesn’t take much for her to lose her temper either, with one tiny issue leading to her becoming incredibly angry and ruthless. It is this side of her that makes the character so great, though, as it leads to everyone genuinely fearing her, which should be the case for any great villain.

9 She Has An Iconic Outfit

Outfits might not be the be-all and end-all of a character, but when someone looks great it certainly does help, and that is the case with The Queen Of Hearts. This movie is full of bright colors and iconic outfits, and hers certainly stands out among the rest.

She looks fantastic, with her iconic red, black, and white dress being one that audiences around the world are able to associate with her. When it comes to Disney villain outfits, she certainly has one of the best.

8 She Is Built Up Throughout The Movie

Unlike many Disney villains who feature in their movies from the start, audiences are made to wait for The Queen Of Heart’s appearance. This is brilliant, as it simply builds up the tension and anticipation for when she does arrive in the movie.

There’s plenty of teases about her throughout the story, with the White Rabbit and the Cheshire Cat bringing up the majority. The decision to build her up like this is a great one, and it really has a fantastic impact when she does appear.

7 She Makes A Big Impact In A Small Time

As previously mentioned, while she is referenced throughout the movie, The Queen Of Hearts only shows up in the final act of the movie. So the fact that she is able to make such a big impact within that period of time showcases what an excellent character she is.

Unlike other Disney villains, who often get much longer screentime but make far less of an impact, The Queen Of Hearts has a huge role in the movie, despite only being on screen for a short time.

6 Her Relationship With The King

While The Queen Of Hearts is a huge physical presence within the movie, the King is the complete opposite, being a very small character. But it isn’t just their physical appearances that mark these differences, as their personalities are just as opposing, with The Queen being much louder and more confident.

Having this much stronger female character is refreshing in a movie, especially for one that was made in 1951. She is the commanding presence out of the two, but their relationship and back and forth conversations do bring some great comedy to the movie, as well.

5 The Trial Of Alice Is Great

One of the strongest scenes in the movie is the trial of Alice, which is run by the Queen and King Of Hearts. It’s an amazing scene as it allows The Queen to interact with many of the other characters that Alice has encountered along her journey, which is a lot of fun.

It showcases her differing personalities, as she goes from calm and inquisitive to completely losing her temper on multiple occasions. It’s a great example of what she is like as a character in just one scene, and it also shows her more vulnerable side when Alice grows, which adds further layers to the character.

4 She Plays A Brutal Game Of Croquet

The fact that Alice and The Queen Of Hearts settle their differences via a game of croquet is something that fits this wild movie perfectly. However, what may seem to be silly at first quickly turns into one of the best scenes in the movie.

Of course, The Queen has rigged the game, with the balls (hedgehogs) and the mallets (flamingos) all working in her favor. It proves the grip that she has on the world and creates a really fun scene, as Alice desperately works hard to try and beat her.

3 There Are Multiple Versions Of Her Character & They’re All Great

Disney’s live-action movies have certainly been hit and miss when it comes to living up to their animated classics, and the villains of those movies have often suffered. For instance, Scar is nowhere near as fearsome or interesting in the live-action version, but this problem doesn’t exist with The Queen Of Hearts.

In the Alice In Wonderland live-action movie, Helena Bonham Carter delivered an incredible performance that only helped to cement the legacy of this fantastic character. The fact that the character fits so well into any iteration of the story just shows what a great villain she is, overall.

2 Even Her Staff Are Scared Of Her

When it comes to The Queen Of Hearts, there is no doubt she is one of Disney’s angriest characters and one that has no problem in expressing herself. There is nobody that doesn’t fear her wrath, and this includes those who are supposedly on her side.

Normally, Disney villains are only scary to those that they’re going up against, which is the hero, in this case, Alice. However, everybody in Wonderland is afraid of her, and that is what makes her such a scary character, which is what all Disney villains should be.

1 She Is One Of The Most Memorable Characters In Wonderland

One of the reasons Alice In Wonderland is one of Disney’s best movies is because the world is so vibrant and has so many incredible characters. Alice goes on a true adventure and comes across a whole host of big personalities along the way, from the Mad Hatter to the Chesire Cat.

But the fact that The Queen Of Hearts is able to be one of the true standouts, despite the fact she’s not actually in the movie for that long, is a testament to how great her character is. She has an enormous impact on the movie, and that makes her a memorable character. There could be no Alice in Wonderland without The Queen of Hearts and she remains an iconic villain to this day.
