All 12 Marvel Movies Releasing After Hawkeye (& When)

The last episode for Marvel and Disney+’s Hawkeye just bowed and while it’s the end of the MCU for 2021, a banner year for the studio, there are plenty more Marvel movies coming up. The MCU returned in grand fashion after 2020 saw no new releases for the studio. Things kicked off in January with Marvel’s first official MCU streaming series – the critically acclaimed WandaVision. That series will spawn its own spinoff, House of Harkness, centered on Agatha, Kathyrn Hahn’s fan-favorite character.

Marvel released several other television shows throughout 2021, including Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Marvel’s What If…?, and the aforementioned Hawkeye, most of which are seemingly leading into various other MCU movies and shows. While the streaming side of the MCU did just fine, though, it was the theatrical releases that proved Marvel was a driving force behind the current state of moviegoing. All four of Marvel’s 2021 movies have landed in the highest-grossing movies of the year, with the studio’s latest release, Spider-Man: No Way Home skyrocketing to number 1 at the box office.

While No Way Home may have been one of the most anticipated releases of 2021 for any studio, Marvel also delivered other groundbreaking movies. Black Widow finally gave Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff her due while also igniting a lawsuit that had wider ramifications for the industry. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced the MCU’s first Asian superhero and became its second highest-grossing movie of the year in the process. Eternals also made strides for the MCU’s diversity, introducing an LGBTQ+ superhero and having one of the most diverse casts of any Marvel movie to date. With its upcoming slate, the studio looks to be forging ahead with much of what it accomplished in 2021 in mind – here’s every upcoming Marvel movie and when they release.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness – May 6, 2022

Benedict Cumberbatch’s second solo movie isn’t even technically a solo movie. As has become more common, the upcoming Marvel movie will feature an Avengers-sized team-up, as the former Sorcerer Supreme will be joined by Scarlet Witch, Wong, and one of the MCU’s newest heroes, America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez. Although the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home seemed to indicate that the multiverse was left intact, the first Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer revealed that that is not the case. While much of the plot of the upcoming film remains a mystery, as Marvel’s next major release, more and more continues to be revealed.

Thor: Love & Thunder – July 8, 2022

Chris Hemsworth will be back as the God of Thunder for a fourth adventure and the second to be directed by Taika Waititi, the mastermind behind Thor: Ragnarok. Thor: Love and Thunder will also herald the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster after she was last seen in a major capacity Thor: The Dark World. The film will track her transformation into Mighty Thor, but that’s not the only thing on the film’s plate. Tessa Thompson will be back as Valkyrie, as will the Guardians of the Galaxy, who will help Thor in some way before their own trilogy-completing adventure in 2023. Christian Bale will also star as Thor: Love and Thunder‘s villain Gorr the God Butcher, with Russell Crowe rounding out the cast.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – November 11, 2022

In what will likely be one of Marvel’s most emotional sequels ever, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will follow the goings-on in Wakanda post-Avengers: Endgame. Much of the cast of the original film is returning, including Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Danai Gurir as Okoye, and Angela Basset as Ramonda. Michaela Cole has also been cast in an undisclosed role, with some speculating that she could be playing the MCU’s version of Storm, the iconic X-Men character. Still, one of the main concerns of Wakanda Forever will be the passing on of the Black Panther mantle, but the film will also introduce Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart and Tenoch Huerta’s Atlantean villain Namor.

The Marvels – February 17, 2023

Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel sequel will kick off the studio’s 2023 slate. In addition to the return of Carol Danvers, the sequel will see Teyonah Parris reprise her WandaVision role as Monica Rambeau. This time around, though, she’ll be powered up. Iman Vellani will also appear in the film as Ms. Marvel after making her MCU debut in her own solo series. A few other actors have been confirmed for The Marvels, including Zawe Ashton as the villain and Park Seo-Joon in an undisclosed role. Samuel L. Jackson is expected to also return as Nick Fury after his turn in Secret Invasion.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – May 5, 2023

After James Gunn turned some of Marvel’s most obscure heroes into global phenomenons, the director will be back to cap off his trilogy about the titular superhero team. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in the midst of filming, with the entire main team returning. The plot will presumably center around the search for Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, although how the events of Thor: Love and Thunder and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special factor into the movie remain to be seen. In addition to the main cast of the film, Gunn has cast numerous roles that he has frequently teased on social media. One of these roles has been confirmed, with Will Poulter appearing as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. As for the rest, that remains to be seen.

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania – July 28, 2023

Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) will be back for Ant-Man’s third adventure, but this time they may be facing off against their toughest villain yet. After being introduced in the Loki season finale, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror will be the main villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Scott and Hope may have one more hero on their side, though – it is widely speculated that the third Ant-Man movie will see Cassie Lang, who will now be played by Blockers alum Kathryn Newton, transform into Stature, although that is unconfirmed. Regardless, the official arrival of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU is not to be taken lightly and it could have major ramifications going forward.

Fantastic 4

With Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox and all the characters the studio owned the rights to, Marvel is finally able to bring the First Family into the official MCU fold. Right now, very little is known about the Fantastic Four movie, including who will be playing the heroes. Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts will helm the upcoming film and with the director now freed up and Tom Holland’s latest film out in the world, work can begin in earnest on the upcoming movie. While speculation has run rampant about which stars could appear in the film, many are also wondering who could be Fantastic Four‘s main villain, whether it be Doctor Doom, Galactus, or any number of other characters related to the group.

Blade

Marvel’s resident vampire fighter will be played by Mahershala Ali in Blade. Like most of Marvel’s undated slate, little is known about the film, but some of the cast and behind-the-scenes crew have already been announced. Delroy Lindo has been cast in an undisclosed role while Watchmen scribe Stacy Osei-Kuffour has been tapped to write the screenplay. Bassam Tariq will direct the film. Ali has yet to debut in person in any of Marvel’s latest movies, but a surprise appearance in Eternals post-credit scene has teased a potential connection between Dane Whitman’s Black Knight persona and Blade himself. With filming rumored to begin in 2022, it’s possible Blade could release as early as 2023.

Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynold’s Merc-With-A-Mouth will make his way to the MCU in what will likely be Marvel Studios’ first R-rated feature. While it seems like all the other characters from 20th Century Fox’s Marvel stable will be rebooted, Reynolds’ personal connection to the character will see him return in Deadpool 3. Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin will pen the sequel and it seems likely that the character could return sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.

Captain America 4

Anthony Mackie will return to the MCU as Sam Wilson in Captain America 4. After his journey in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is ready to take on the mantle of one of Marvel’s most popular heroes. What Captain America will be up to in the sequel remains to be seen, but without a Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 on the horizon, it seems like the movie could pick up the threads left from the end of the series. That includes the reveal that Sharon Carter is the Power Broker and Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine’s recruitment of US Agent. With Kevin Feige having a release date in mind for Captain America 4, he hasn’t made anyone privy to it quite yet, but a 2024 release date seems like the earliest it could release.

Shang-Chi 2

Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi will be back in the sequel to 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. It’s unclear if Shang-Chi‘s post-credits scenes will lead directly into Shang-Chi 2 or if it is teasing the appearance of Liu’s character in another upcoming Marvel feature. Destin Daniel Cretton will be back to helm the sequel while also working on his own Disney+ show and Liu is ecstatic about the director returning – the Shang-Chi actor says the movie wouldn’t be possible without Cretton. With Shang-Chi 2 just put into development, it’s likely the sequel is a long way off. A 2024 or even 2025 release date is more than likely.

X-Men

The upcoming X-Men reboot is Marvel’s most secretive upcoming project. Although they are also producing an X-Men television show, this will be unconnected to the MCU at large, making it an open question as to when and how mutants will be introduced to the MCU. Regardless of how they’re introduced, there’s no telling when a movie centered around mutants could be released. It seems more likely that Marvel will slowly tease out their appearance in the MCU before they return in grand fashion in their own movie.
