DC’s presence on the small screen is still growing, as over a dozen new DC TV shows are releasing after Peacemaker. For the last several years, the majority of DC’s shows found a home on The CW as part of the Arrowverse. The popular TV superhero universe started to get more competition in recent years as DC Universe launched multiple new shows, like Titans and Doom Patrol. WarnerMedia’s launch of HBO Max opened up another avenue for a variety of DC content. With multiple outlets interested in bringing different DC Comics characters to the screen, the number of shows in development has continued to grow.

Peacemaker represents a major changing of the guard, though. It is the first TV show officially connected to the DC Extended Universe, as it stars John Cena’s Peacemaker after his debut in The Suicide Squad. The series picks up shortly after the events of the movie and follows Peacemaker as he’s once again tasked with trying to save the world from an alien threat. The success of Peacemaker has only bolstered Warner Bros., DC, and HBO Max’s interest in making more shows. This includes additional spinoffs from upcoming DC movies, but the range of shows coming also includes numerous animated projects and potentially new universes.

All of the new DC shows in development go hand-in-hand with ongoing popular shows like Harley Quinn, Young Justice, and The CW’s various Arrowverse properties. Viewers will be able to see many of the DC shows being actively developed on HBO Max, but there are also plans for additional entries in the Arrowverse. In either case, here’s every upcoming DC TV show releasing after Peacemaker.

Another The Suicide Squad Spinoff

James Gunn has confirmed he’s working on another secret The Suicide Squad spinoff show for HBO Max. The show is in early development at this point but is expected to happen regardless of if Peacemaker gets a second season. There are plenty of characters from The Suicide Squad who could star in their own spinoff, with Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior) among the fan-favorite options. Gunn has also been open about wanting to make a Harley Quinn-focused project starring Margot Robbie, so that could be the plan for Harley’s DCEU future. Even though details on the new The Suicide Squad spinoff are limited, there’s no doubt that the mystery project will happen.

Green Lantern

HBO Max is also making progress on the Green Lantern TV series. The live-action show comes from Arrowverse co-creator Greg Berlanti and writer Seth-Grahame Smith. The Green Lantern series will follow different iterations of the Green Lantern throughout its first season story. Alan Scott (Jeremy Irvine) and Guy Gardner (Finn Wittrock) are the only Green Lanterns officially cast for the series, while Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz, Kilowog, and eventual villain Sinestro are confirmed to appear. It currently appears that Hal Jordan and John Stewart will not appear, possibly due to plans for them to appear in a DCEU movie. HBO Max’s Green Lantern TV show does not have a release date but is likely coming in 2023 if production starts in spring 2022 as planned.

Strange Adventures

Greg Berlanti is also developing a Strange Adventures show for HBO Max. The series revolves around Adam Strange, a man who gains the ability for interstellar travel and is tasked with protecting Earth. Strange Adventures is confirmed to be an anthology series, too, meaning it will explore different superheroes and citizens throughout its first season. The other DC characters coming in the series are not known. Since development on Strange Adventures has been relatively quiet since its announcement in 2019, it remains unclear when it will be released on HBO Max.

Gotham PD

Matt Reeves is also working on the first The Batman HBO Max spinoff show. Gotham PD, as it is unofficially known, is being showrun by Joe Barton following the exit of Terrence Winter. The show is expected to follow Jim Gordon and is a prequel to the events of The Batman. It is not yet confirmed that Jeffrey Wright will return as Gordon for the series, but it is expected. The main story for Gotham PD is not known, only that the focus is on showing how Gotham’s police department and the city at large became so corrupt. Gotham PD does not yet have a release date for HBO Max.

The Penguin

There are also plans for another The Batman spinoff on HBO Max, one following Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot. The Penguin show has been described as a story chronicling Oswald’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld. This could indicate that it is also a prequel to The Batman, depending on what happens to the mob boss in Robert Pattinson’s solo movie. Lauren LeFranc (Agents of SHIELD) is attached to write the script. Since The Penguin was only announced in December 2021, it has not been announced when the series will be released or even begin filming.

Justice League Dark

There is also a big Justice League Dark TV series in the works for HBO Max. The project hails from accomplished producer/director JJ Abrams and his production company Bad Robot. Justice League Dark is expected to be the start of an entire shared universe of Justice League Dark movies and TV shows. The Justice League Dark team typically consists of characters like John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Zatanna, Deadman, and Swamp Thing. No casting has been announced for the Justice League Dark show so far. The team-up series has not had many updates as of late, leaving the release date for the series unclear.

Constantine

In addition to the main Justice League Dark series, Abrams and HBO Max are also working on a solo Constantine show. It is not confirmed if the show will come before the team-up series and be used to set up John Constantine’s place in this universe or be released after and explore his solo adventures. All signs point to a new actor taking on the role of Constantine, too, meaning previous actors like Matt Ryan and Keanu Reeves will not return. This is because Constantine will reportedly see an actor of color portray a younger version of the Hellblazer. No actor has been cast as this new John Constantine, and it is still a mystery when the show will release on HBO Max.

Madame X

There are also plans for Madame Xanadu to get her own series spinning off of Justice League Dark. The Madame X series was announced to be in early development in June 2021, with Abrams producing and Angela Robinson (Professor Marston & the Wonder Women) writing. The project materialized as part of Robinson’s overall deal with Warner Bros. No actress has been cast to play the immortal future teller. HBO Max also does not have a release date yet for Madame X.

Val-Zod Superman

A new take on Superman is coming to HBO Max as a TV show, as Michael B. Jordan is producing a series focused on the Val-Zod iteration of Superman. Jordan is currently only attached to produce the series, although it is possible he will also play the DC superhero. Val-Zod is the second Black Superman project in development at DC, as Bad Robot has a movie in the works as well. The upcoming DC TV show will introduce most to Val-Zod, who comes from the Earth-2 continuity in the comics and is another Kryptonian hero. Details on Val-Zod, such as when it will be released, remain difficult to come by.

Dead Boy Detectives

HBO Max has also ordered a pilot for Dead Boy Detectives, an adaption of Neil Gaiman’s comic creation. The series cast George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, and Kassius Nelson to play the main characters in the pilot episode. The characters previously appeared in Doom Patrol, but it is unclear if Dead Boy Detectives exists in that same universe. If HBO Max is happy with the pilot, Dead Boy Detectives will be picked up for a full series order. The show is described as a one-hour series following Charles Rowland (Revri) and Edwin Paine (Rexstrew), two boys who forgo the afterlife to investigate crimes on Earth involving supernatural elements. Nelson’s Crystal Palace aids them in their quest.

Gotham Knights

Over on The CW, the Arrowverse’s plans for more Gotham stories have brought Gotham Knights into development. The series is not a spinoff from Batwoman, though, and will instead feature a new lineup of Batman-adjacent characters, such as Bruce Wayne’s rebellious adopted son. Batman’s son is forced to work with the children of his father’s villains after they are collectively framed for the Dark Knight’s death. No casting announcements have been made at this time, but with Gotham Knights expected to begin filming its pilot in April 2022, the show could debut on The CW in late 2022 or early 2023.

Justice U

The CW is also developing another new series centered around David Ramsey’s John Diggle. The Arrowverse vet will star in Justice U, which will see Diggle recruit five young superheroes to go undercover at a major college. Through this experience, Diggle will train them to become the next generation of Arrowverse heroes. It has not been revealed what young DC characters will be trained by Diggle in Justice U. The show is still in the early stages of development, but it could be part of the 2023 Arrowverse lineup if everything comes together.

Batman: Caped Crusader

HBO Max is also set to be the home of a new take on the Dark Knight, as the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader is in development. The project comes from JJ Abrams, The Batman director Matt Reeves, and Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm. Acclaimed comics writer Ed Brubaker is also set to serve as the head writer on the series. Batman: Caped Crusader will have a 10-episode first season as it reinvents the Batman mythos. The show will debut on HBO Max and Cartoon Network sometime in 2023.

My Adventures with Superman

Cartoon Network and HBO Max are also collaborating on a new DC TV show, My Adventures with Superman. The show focuses on younger versions of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen when they are in their 20s working for the Daily Planet. The Boys star Jack Quaid will voice Clark Kent in the series, while Alice Lee (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) will voice Lois Lane. No voice actor has been revealed for Jimmy Olsen. There is also no release date for My Adventures with Superman, but the show has already secured a second season renewal.

DC Superhero High

HBO Max is also developing a new live-action series known as DC Superhero High. The half-hour comedy show comes from Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman and follows a group of teen heroes living at a boarding school for gifted kids. DC Superhero High will explore the characters’ day-to-day lives as they grow to become iconic DC heroes fans know them to be. It is not yet known which DC characters will appear in the series or when DC Superhero High will be released on HBO Max.

Batwheels

While most of the upcoming DC TV shows are aimed at young adults or older audiences, HBO Max is also working on Batwheels for a younger demographic. The series is aimed at preschoolers as they watch various crime-fighting vehicles from DC. Batwheels is confirmed to feature Bam (The Batmobile), Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Red (The Redbird), Jett (The Batwing), and Buff (The Bat Truck). The vehicular heroes will team up with Gotham’s human vigilantes, such as Batman, who will be voiced by Ethan Hawke.

Teen Titans Go! The Night Begins to Shine

Cartoon Network and HBO Max are also working on a Teen Titans Go! spinoff focused on the return to the world of Night Begins to Shine. The spinoff sees Robin, Raven, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Starfire return to the musical land and protect it from a new threat, which their mixtape alone can stop. Teen Titans Go! The Night Begins to Shine has no confirmed release date at this stage, but as shown, DC has an impressive slate of programming on the way following Peacemaker.
