All American Homecoming: 10 Movies & TV Shows Where You’ve Seen The Cast

AllAmerican: Homecoming—the spinoff of popular CW show— All American, is already underway and judging from IMDb ratings. the fan reception is great. With the original show focusing on Spencer James’s football career. the spinoff charts a sports path too by following Simone Hicks and her tennis career.

Most of the cast members are yet to be household names and fans might be wondering what else they’ve done in their careers so far. Well, a number of the actors have had minor or major roles in a few popular movies and TV shows. Though these roles didn’t make them breakout stars. they sure did impress the casting team of All American: Homecoming.

Geffri Maya Hightower – Private Practice (2013)

Maya plays Simone Hicks, a former Beverly Hills High School, and current Bringston University student who is eager to pursue her dream of playing professional tennis. However, she finds the road quite challenging.

Maya has had supporting roles in a number of TV shows but her most notable one is that of Maya Bennet, the daughter of Oceanside Wellness Group co-founder Sam Bennett in Private Practice. Thanks to the role, Maya can now count herself as one of the actors who got to keep one of their real names. However, she’ll presumably appreciate her role as Simone Hicks more since it’s more fleshed out.

Peyton Alex Smith – Legacies (2018 – 2021)

Smith is Damon Sims, a talented baseball player who opts to not go for the national MLB draft and signs up for the Bringston team instead. Despite his teammates being less talented than him, he focuses on uplifting them.

The young actor’s resume isn’t long but it’s full of main character roles. He is best known for playing one of the smartest Legacies characters, the werewolf Rafael Waithe. Parallels can be drawn between Damon and Rafael as they are both loyal to a fault, While Damon is loyal to his team to the point it hinders his own progress, Rafael is loyal to his love interests to the point it prevents him from performing his duties as a werewolf.

Cory Hardrict – The Oath (2019)

Hardrict appears on the show as the young Coach Marcus Turner. After seeing his career ruined by an injury, he now works as the university’s assistant baseball coach.

The actor’s resume stretches all the way to 1997 and it includes over 50 minor TV and movie roles. In The Oath, he shines as Cole, the son of a leader of corrupt cops known as The Ravens. Just as Marcus has to adapt to new and challenging circumstances, Cole also does his best to stay good despite having a dad who swore to serve and protect but has no intention of obeying the law.

Kelly Jenrette – The Handmaid’s Tale – (2018 – Present)

Jenrette plays Simone’s aunt, Professor Amara Patterson. The former journalist is now the most popular professor on campus but she is controversial because of her eagerness to report sensitive stories.

Jenrette’s performance in The Handmaid’s Tale is such a strong one that she received an “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series” Emmy nomination. On the critically-acclaimed show, her character Annie reminds audiences of Amara by causing all types of havoc. Only that Annie’s interest is to target her ex-husband’s current wife, who she believes ruined her marriage.

Netta Walker – Chicago Fire (2012)

Walker is Keisha McCalla, the unofficial “Mayor of Bringston University.” Having grown up on campus, thanks to her dad’s job as an administrator, she knows just about everything.

Walker hadn’t made proper forays into mainstream American TV before All American: Homecoming. Prior to her being cast in a major role in the spinoff, she had appeared in a single episode of Chicago Fire. In what is one of the best crossover episodes in the Chicago universe, she gives a strong performance as a teen caught up in an opioid crisis.

Sylvester Powell – Five Points (2019)

Powell stars on the show as Jesse “JR” Raymond Jr., a varsity baseball player who isn’t talented but makes up for that through hard work. Powell is also close friends with Damon.

In Five Points, he plays a teenager named Trey. So far, All American: Homecoming has been the actor’s biggest role. Most of his other roles have been cameos. And with his fortunes now changing, audiences can expect a lot more from him going forward.

Mitchell Edwards – Law & Order: SVU (2006)

The actor stars as the football player Cameron “Cam” Watkins. After being an arrogant person for most of his high school life, he chooses to reevaluate his personality.

Fans might recognize Edwards as Hype, the homophobic rapper in Law & Order: SVU who catches a case for assaulting a transgender student. Over the course of his career, Edwards has become good at playing characters that start off as arrogant only for reality to hit them, causing them to either change their ways or pay for mistakes done. Such is what happens to Edwards’ characters in the two respective shows.

Camille Hyde – American Vandal (2018)

Every campus-themed show needs a mean girl and Hyde is such a character in the series. She plays Thea Mays, the queen-bee tennis player.

The actress’ most notable role is that of the investigative student Gabi in one of the funniest mockumentary shows, Netlfix’s American Vandal. Like Thea, Gabi is envied by fellow students too because she has a cool car. She is even dubbed the “Transpo Captain.” With the two roles, Hyde has shown that she shines best in school-themed shows.

Rhoyle Ivy King – Pose (2018 – 2021)

King makes regular appearances as the non-binary character Nathaniel. They are a stylist who happens to be very loyal to their friends Keisha and Simone.

In Pose, King plays a ball organizer named Letty. The character is also a gender-fluid one. So far, King has been one of the LGBTQ+ actors to benefit from the new trends where characters belonging to the community are played by actual members of the community. The actor only has three roles under their belt so far but more will definitely come.

Tamberla Perry – Suits (2011 – 2019)

Perry plays Keena Sims, the adoptive mother of Damon Sims. She is initially skeptical about the new direction her son has taken but eventually becomes supportive of him.

In Suits, Perry makes a couple of appearances as Rosalie, a lawyer, and wife to the influential corporate attorney Alex Williams. Both of Perry’s characters are similar in that they are dedicated to motherhood. Just as Keena remains focused on making sure her son stays on the right path, Rosalie also quits her job to become a full-time mother.
