Warning: SPOILERS for All American: Homecoming episode 1

All American: Homecoming episode 1’s ending teases Damon Sims’ surprise family history. The CW’s All American spinoff is primarily focused on continuing Simone Hicks’ story after her supporting role since season 2, but Damon Sims will also be a main character. Audiences first met the talented baseball prospect during All American season 3 when an episode was used as a backdoor pilot for All American: Homecoming. However, plenty of mysteries about Damon and his past remained.

One of the biggest unanswered questions about Damon that All American: Homecoming will address is about his real parents. Damon was adopted as a child and his adopted mom fueled his baseball career. He doesn’t know who his biological parents are, but he does know that they went to Bringston University. This was part of the reason why he wanted to go to the college, as he hopes to find out more about his birth parents. It had been expected that Simone’s All American spinoff would take its time revealing the truth about Damon’s secret family history, but now it seems episode 1 has already delivered a huge tease.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

At the very end of All American: Homecoming episode 1, Damon’s friend and fellow baseball player JR learns that Sims was adopted as a child and that his parents were Bringston alumni. After pausing to think, JR rushes back to his dorm room and pulls out a box of memorabilia. He quickly finds a photo of a baby boy inside. The unidentified child has a scar on his forehead in the same place Damon does. All American: Homecoming then replays Damon’s previous line before adding a new one in from JR, confirming that his parents also went to Bringston University. In doing so, the show heavily implies that Damon and JR are actually brothers.

JR and Damon have a long-standing friendship as they met playing baseball many years before. It now seems that All American: Homecoming could completely change the nature of their relationship, though. JR’s photo might not outright confirm that the baby in the photo is his brother, but the fact that it was in his mom’s old Bible implies the familial connection. The baby’s similar scar placement as Damon and knowing that both of them have parents who went to Bringston University before also makes their blood connection all the more likely.

That said, it remains to be seen if Simone’s All American spinoff will make such a revelation. Dropping a huge clue like this from the very beginning of the season could be done as misdirection. However, revealing that Damon and JR are brothers would be a natural way for All American: Homecoming to add some drama to the series. It’ll send JR on a journey to find out if Damon is his brother and, if so, contemplate whether or not to tell him the truth. It also provides All American: Homecoming with a seamless way of having Damon meet his birth parents.
