Crossover content in Animal Crossing has introduced many fun opportunities for fans. Whether done in a special event like the Super Mario anniversary crossover, or as a set of special Amiibo cards like the Sanrio crossover, each of these collaborations gives fans a new way to appreciate the Animal Crossing series. For many fans, crossovers offer a chance to see favorite characters from other games reimagined as Animal Crossing villagers.

Of all the villagers available in the Animal Crossing series, only a small number are crossover-related. Many aren’t currently available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons either, which can be disappointing for fans who enjoyed them in past titles. A few crossover villagers were tied to specific events in Japan, and never became available for players in other parts of the world. Despite this, these crossover villagers have an interesting part in the history of the Animal Crossing franchise, and how it interacted with other products and companies.

While many Animal Crossing crossover villagers are locked to past games and devices, there is the potential for new crossover-inspired villagers to be introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, or in future Animal Crossing games. It isn’t uncommon for Nintendo to partner with other popular titles, which could lead to Pokémon or more Legend of Zelda-inspired villager opportunities. While nothing has been confirmed currently, it would be exciting to see several of these popular stories overlap.
