When it comes to comics, DC’sWonder Woman and her family are some of the greatest inspirations to women and they’e all together on a new variant cover for International Women’s Day. A war may be coming to Themyscira, but the Amazons are still an incredible and diverse sisterhood.

International Women’s Day is March 8. The global holiday has a history stretching back as far as 1909. This past year, DC Comics commemorated the day by launching “Believe in Wonder”—Wonder Woman’s 80th anniversary celebratory campaign. So far, it looks like plans are already being made to commemorate the holiday next year—beginning with a series of variant covers.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On Twitter, comic artist Nicola Scott shared a variant cover for Wonder Woman #785. It brings together the Wonder Family beautifully and is said to be “part of DC’s International Women’s Day series.” The cover art is illustrated by Nicola Scott with colors by Annette Kwok. Collectively shown are Yara Flor, Cassie Sandsmark, Diana, Artemis, Nubia, and Donna Troy. This cover is stunning and beautifully showcases some of DC’s best heroines.

There have been some big paradigm shifts in Wonder Woman comics since the start of Infinite Frontier. Diana fought in the afterlife and returned to life, Nubia became the Queen of the Amazons, and Yara Flor made her debut. A third faction of Amazons has been revealed, the Esquecida. Now, an Amazon civil war seems inevitable, with Olympus being involved in the conflict. Each of the Wonder Women shown above will have a major role to play in the near future. Wonder Woman has long been a champion, inspiring young women across the world for years and it’s amazing to see the Wonder Family not only grow, but also unite in artwork like this.

Diana has not yet met Yara, nor has Nubia, although the Amazon Queen does know of her existence. Their first official meeting will likely be noteworthy. Nonetheless, there is a lot more story yet to come for the Wonder Family. This cover could be a sign of an incredible new alliance in DC comics that hasn’t reached fruition just yet. Considering the increased focus of family groups in DC Comics with the Bat-Family, Flash Family, Alan Scott’s family, Superman’s son taking up the helm, and many other family units, Wonder Woman finally having her own heroic family would be very fitting. 2021 has been a big year for Wonder Woman and comics related to her, so hopefully this cover is just one of many incredible things for DC’s Wonder Family fans to look forward to in 2022. Wonder Woman #785 will release March 15.
