The Pokémon TCG’s latest expansion, Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword & Shield – Fusion Strike, will feature a new, teamwork-oriented Battle Style and additional V and VMAX Pokémon cards. The Pokémon Company has confirmed fewer than a dozen cards for the set, but promotional material from Fusion Strike‘s Japanese counterpart, Fusion Arts, may have already revealed more.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword & Shield collection has featured seven expansions so far, and Fusion Strike and the upcoming Pokémon TCG: Celebrations expansion bring the total to nine. The collection’s introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon in the form of V and VMAX cards has heavily influenced the game’s strategies, with Battle Styles further diversifying the meta. With more ways to claim victory, Fusion Strike will bring yet another wrinkle to Pokémon TCG battles.

PokémonSword and Shield’s starters are getting new VMAX forms in Fusion Strike, The Pokémon Company confirmed in a press release. Rillaboom, Inteleon, and Cinderace previously appeared in the Rebel Clash expansion, released in May 2020 before the introduction of Battle Styles. These VMAX starters will be featured as Single Strike or Rapid Strike Battle Style cards.

Pokémon TCG – Fusion Strike & Fusion Arts Expansion Cards

The Galar region’s starters will not be the only popular Pokémon featured in Fusion Strike. Kanto’s elusive Mythical, Mew, will be featured in VMAX form. Genesect, one of several human-engineered Pokémon, will also appear in Fusion Strike in V form. These are joined by Hoopa V, a Mythical Pokémon from the Generation 6. Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield has featured many Legendaries in its expansions, but each of these Pokémon is sure to spark some excitement in the fandom; not only have all appeared in their own Pokémon films, but Mew and Genesect have become quite valuable Pokémon TCG cards in past sets.
