Amazon Prime Video posted a photo of Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight on Twitter in response to the release of The Batman’s deleted Joker scene. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is considered by many to be the peak of superhero film making, let alone the best Batman movie. Christian Bale’s performance as Batman is many viewers’ favorite portrayal of the character, but it’s The Dark Knight’s rendition of The Joker that people always love to discuss. Ledger’s portrayal as the Clown Prince of Crime is believed to be among the best performances in film to date and earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2009.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

With the release and subsequent success of The Batman earlier this month, fans have begun to question when in this new franchise The Joker may return to the big screen. One of the final scenes of The Batman features an inmate who seems eerily similar to The Joker speaking to The Riddler in Arkham Asylum but is never actually called by name. This was confirmed to be The Joker by the film’s director Matt Reeves after the fact, who also stated that they had filmed another scene with Batman’s greatest rival. The nearly five-minute deleted Joker scene was released earlier today and has become audiences’ best look at Barry Keoghan’s portrayal of the famous Batman villain.

In response to all the hype surrounding the newly released scene, Amazon Prime Video posted an image of Batman and the Joker from The Dark Knight on their Twitter page. The picture is from the film’s famous scene where Batman interrogates the Joker about the whereabouts of Harvey Dent. The scene really showcases the dichotomy between Batman and the Joker and shines a spotlight on Ledger’s performance in the villainous role. Check it out below:

Amazon Prime Video is not the first to draw comparisons between the two films. Ever since The Batman’s release, it has been receiving rave reviews constantly stating it’s the best Batman film since The Dark Knight. This level of praise has many wondering if this new franchise will also have a Joker that lives up to the expectations set by Ledger over a decade ago. The deleted scene is eerily similar to the one in The Dark Knight as it also focuses on Batman interrogating the Joker, only this time about a crime he didn’t commit. Many comparisons can be drawn between Ledger’s and Keoghan’s portrayals of the character as both appear to be scarred up and obsessed with their relationship to Batman. While Keoghan’s performance is indicative of Ledgers, he both appears and acts differently enough that he makes the role his own.

After seeing this scene, audiences are already speculating as to what role Keoghan’s Joker will play in a sequel. Speculations range from him being the sequel’s primary antagonist to him teaming up with other famous villains from Batman’s rogues gallery to wreak havoc on Gotham City. From the massive success of The Batman, coupled with the multiple spin-off shows that have been announced, including one about Arkham Asylum, it’s all but guaranteed that audiences will be seeing The Joker again. Until then, people can get their fill of Batman taking on The Joker by either checking out the newly released deleted scene or watching The DarkKnight, which is currently available to stream on Netflix and HBO Max.
