Set photos from American Horror Story season 10 revealed Evan Peters would be reprising his season 1 role as Tate Langdon, and it has heavy implications for the upcoming narrative. Co-creator Ryan Murphy announced the milestone season is officially be subtitled Double Feature, claiming the installment will consist of two stories: “one by the sea, one by the sand.” The cast and crew of Double Feature are remaining tight-lipped, but leaked details shed light on what’s to come.

After his absence in American Horror Story: 1984, Peters is back in the FX anthology alongside series veterans like Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Billie Lourd, Finn Wittrock, and Adina Porter. The returning cast will be joined by a handful of AHS newcomers such as Macaulay Culkin, Kaia Gerber, and Paris Jackson. The story by the sea was presumably filming in Provincetown, Massachusetts, with production splitting time coast to coast. Though some of the filming for Double Feature was already expected to occur in Los Angeles based on past seasons, there might be a more significant reason surrounding California’s set.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The American Horror Story season 10 set photo from late April surprisingly shows who looks to be Peters back in his classic Tate garb, donning the signature striped green sweater and messy blond hair. Before the picture, there wasn’t any indication Peters would be reprising his Murder House role again. He first did so for season 8’s Apocalypse, but the installment’s incorporation with Murder House and Coven was greatly advertised. The involvement of Tate and the key season 1 location hints how Double Feature will connect to previous seasons, but just how big will that link be?

With the first half of Double Feature set predominantly on the east coast, something (or someone) will need to draw the story to Los Angeles. The mansion at the center of Murder House has a long and dark history, which could pave the way to a connection between characters in Provincetown to sinister elements previously showcased in Los Angeles. If the plot travels back to Murder House in the present day or through flashbacks, it allows Tate to appear, seeing as he’s a spirit trapped within the home’s walls. Longtime fans will certainly be eager to see Peters’ classic character return, especially since it opens the door for more familiar faces from past seasons, especially ghosts. Murphy already took to social media (via Instagram) in April 2020 to tease the return of the Rubber Man, so it seems like season 1 elements are still prevalent in the current storylines.

The presence of Tate could also clear up any confusion regarding the fate of certain American Horror Story figures following the events of Apocalypse. After Mallory (Billie Lourd) went back in time to kill Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) before becoming the Antichrist, she altered previous events depicted in the series. Without the Antichrist, Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) never traveled to the Murder House, nor did she reunite Tate with Violet Harmon (Taissa Farmiga). American Horror Story season 10 can now explain what happened to the occupants in the Los Angeles home after Mallory’s heroic efforts.
