One of the things American Idol is known for is the fact that some of the judges hold absolutely nothing back when it comes to the contestants. One of the original judges that was on during the show’s first few seasons was Simon Cowell, and he said some pretty scathing things to many of the contestants.

While some of Cowell’s quotes were insightful, and a few of them were nice, that was definitely not the case for all of them. Here are some of the most savage quotes he said on the show.

10 “You’re A Beautiful Girl, But You’re Ugly”

This is something Cowell said to a contestant named Heather Piccinini. Apparently, he thought she was gorgeous, but that was only when she was not singing. The rest of what he said to her implied that he thought she made unattractive facial expressions when she was singing, and he even told her that she would see what he meant if she watched her performance.

Most people would not even think of commenting on a person’s looks in a situation like this. But then again, there have been many other times when he said similar words to others on the show.

9 “It’s Just Sweet, Like Paula Used To Be”

While a lot of Cowell’s savage quotes were directed at the contestants on American Idol, some of them were directed at other judges, and this is one of them. This quote was something Cowell said to a contestant after she finished singing.

But, before he said it, he first informed her that her performance reminded him of something one would hear if they attended a rodeo. She of course took it as an insult, but he informed her that her performance was sweet, and then he said this quote right after that.

8 “Get A Lawyer And Sue Her”

Many of Cowell’s quotes on American Idol could be considered a bit cruel, and this is one of them. Even though he was simply there to judge the performances of the contestants on the show, he did dish out some interesting legal advice on at least one occasion.

After hearing one person sing, the judge asked if they were taking singing lessons. After that, he asked who their teacher was. Then, he inquired about whether or not the person had a lawyer, and this quote came right after that. This implied that the person’s singing skills weren’t that great.

7 “I Think You’re Possibly The Worst Singer In The World”

Most people would have a difficult time naming the worst singer in the world, but this quote from Cowell suggests that he had no trouble figuring out who that is.

Being called the worst singer in the world by someone who has listened to a lot of terrible singers in his lifetime would be devastating to hear, especially for someone who wants to be a professional singer.

6 “You Walked In Very Sulky, Quite Rude, Very Aggressive, And You’ve Got Very, Very Bad Energy”

This was one of Cowell’s most savage quotes during his time on American Idol and it was directed at someone named Andrew Fenlon. But while the quote alone might make it sound as though Cowell was being particularly rude that day, that doesn’t mean that Fenlon was very nice, either.

This contestant was beginning to get frustrated before he even got the chance to sing in front of the judges. He was upset because he had to wait a while that day, which put him in a bad mood and his bad mood annoyed all of the judges.

5 “You’re Not Good At Anything”

Here’s another savage quote from Simon. This is something he said after hearing Ian Benardo sing during his audition. However, this wasn’t the only thing that was said during his audition.

When Benardo arrived, he kept insisting that he was already a superstar and that being the winner of American Idol was only something he wanted to do to make his resumé look better. In addition to telling Benardo that he wasn’t good at anything, Cowell also called the audition “rubbish,” much to Benardo’s dismay.

4 “You Do The Links, Sweetheart. I’ll Do The Judging”

When Simon Cowell was on the series, he shared a great deal of banter with Ryan Seacrest, and he said this quote during one of these times.

During this particular episode, Cowell asked fellow judge Randy Jackson a question. However, Seacrest is the one who answered it, and this quote was Cowell’s reply. After that, it appeared as though things were getting a bit tense between them. The show then went to a commercial break.

3 “Forget Frenchie, She’s Like France”

This quote was something Cowell said after hearing Mandisa Hundley for the first time. However, that was not the only savage thing that came out of his mouth after her audition. After auditioning, she claimed that she was happy that no one made fun of her size. Little did she know that Cowell actually inquired about whether or not they had a bigger stage that year after she got done singing.

After that, one of the other judges claimed that she was similar to another famous plus-size contestant, whose name was Frenchie. This is when he replied with this quote.

2 “A Lot Of People Are Going To Find You Annoying, Amy”

After one of the other judges wanted to give one contestant the chance to move on to the next round of the series, Cowell said this quote. It appears that even when someone was good enough to impress the other judges on the show, he could come up with something savage to say that could put a damper on the contestant’s excitement.

Even though no contestant would want to hear a comment like this, it seemed to make the moments when he was not saying mean things seem a lot more special.

1 “Oh, Robert, I’m Afraid You Just Killed My Favorite Song Of All Time”

No one likes it when a person ruins one of their favorite songs, and that is why Cowell said this quote to someone during one episode of American Idol. Additionally, he seemed to be very upset when he said it.

But one of the most interesting parts of this whole thing was not exactly what he said to the contestant, but rather what the contestant said in return. When Cowell said this, the contestant asked whether he meant it in a good way or a bad way. No one ever wants to be told they have ruined a great song.
