When a game is created, gamers flock to see whether it can captivate them, draw them in with fascinating stories and exciting new gameplay. Of course, while the players come for the story aspect and gameplay options, they end up staying for the mods.

Mods of any kind can make a game better, from any Star Wars game out there that now includes the Mandalorian, to some nightmare fuelled horror mods in Skyrim to the simplest of mods in the popular game  Among Us. The multiplayer murder mystery game that took the world by storm has seen a great number of mods come about. From good to bad to bizarre, the mods of Among Us are able to lift the game to a whole other level.

10 Super Smash Bros

In addition to the game at hand, mods can grow beyond just the central game. It’s always fun to see the idea and characters from games such as Among Us explode into other worlds. Worlds, like Super Smash Bros.

In a new mod, someone had the brilliant idea to give the Among Us characters a place in the fight. Pitting the models against the likes of Mario, Samus, Link, and the others with incredibly powerful attacks(and a few useless ones) that call back to the core game, these kinds of crossovers are a blast.

9 Revival

“Death is only the beginning”. In any horror movie, that line would send shivers down an audience’s spine with the ominous feel it presents. For gamers, however, the line is one of welcome, as hearing that death is not the end raises their spirits.

Introducing a way to revive once dead players adds to the stress levels of Among Us. Making it difficult for the imposters and forcing them to think on the fly, the revive mod allows the dead another chance to bring the imposters down.

8 Pac Man

Most mods in games are usually meant to change up the gameplay or enhance the core game in some method or manner. Yet, sometimes, the best mods derive from simply adding in new skins for the characters, like the Pac-Man’s ghosts.

It’s obvious, really. With the way, the characters already look, adding in a mod to let the players become ghosts like Blinky is actually an amazing move and addition to the game. It makes one long for the addition of that iconic theme music to add to the ambiance or a Pac Man skin, perhaps as the imposter.

7 Mourning Mini

Nobody wants to cry in a game and yet, that almost always seems to be the case with a great number of games, movies, and tv shows like Breaking Bad that craft incredibly emotional moments. However, Among Us is not a game to achieve such an effect. At least, not without the aid of the mourning mini-mod.

Already somewhat depressing with the little mini character just sitting by its dead parent’s body, adding in a mod that makes the mini into a mourner makes the scene even sadder. By all accounts, no gamer’s eyes would be left dry thanks to this mod.

6 No Kill Cooldown

Mods are always meant to benefit all gamers. They shouldn’t always be about giving one team an upper hand over the other. Well, in most cases, that is. In the world of Among Us, the no-kill cooldown makes it an easy win for the imposters.

Despite there being ways to lower the cooldown to a second, no-kill cooldown erasing any option, making the imposters basically serial killers, able to run about and murder at ease. Would be interesting to see just how long a game lasts with no cooldown.

5 New Roles

There’s a sad truth that one day, developers will call it quits on a game. Leave it behind even when there are more possibilities at gameplay. However, in many cases, the fans take it into their own hands to uncover that potential, like with some mods on Mass Effect 2 that make the game feel brand new.

While the developers of Among Us are still hard at work improving the game, a few fans got tired of waiting and decided to create new roles. From the doctor who can examine the body to the sheriff who has the chance to kill one of the impostors, the possibilities are endless.

4 Floor Is Lava

Everyone recalls those childhood games of old. When they would avoid the dreaded taggers or hide from the seekers. Of course, along with that, many remember the dreaded words “the floor is lava”. So, naturally, the words are sounded again, this time in virtual reality.

As if running from imposters wasn’t bad enough, the concept of not being able to run across the very floor ups the ante and makes everything so much more complicated. It’s truly an ingenious mod and one that leaves many a player on edge.

3 Hundred Players

Games have limits to them, especially with players. Whether it be five to ten in a lobby or fifty to a hundred, it depends on the game’s size. Among Us was originally a ten-player game. However, a clever developer added in a mod that allowed one to add a hundred players into the game.

Exactly as it sounds, the hundred player mod enables friends to have as many imposters as they like running about. Raising the stakes and intensity, it’s an interesting game mode and mod not to be missed out on.

2 Proximity Chat

Being alone is one of the worst feelings in the world. To be isolated from everyone and everything else. The thoughts that go through one’s head, the very thought of danger lurking around the corner. That’s the kind of fear Proximity Chat presents.

Offering a new, terrifying way to play Among Us, voice chat builds upon the murder mystery aspect, with the players only able to communicate when around one another. It enhances the experience of the game and even makes it feel like a horror movie the players would watch rather than an actual game.

1 Claymore

While most mods are meant to enhance and improve the gaming experience, so many end up just making it more ridiculous and crazy. Whether it be big head mode, new player models, or even the addition of claymores, chaos enthuses.

Allowing the imposters to run around the ship, brandishing explosive claymores, this mod raises the bar for the game. With both crewmates and imposters alike running the risk of being blown to kingdom come by the ingenious mod and creation, craziness ensues and maybe a bit of fun as well.
