The Among Us new account and chat system update has been explained more thoroughly by developer InnerSloth, providing users with more information and details regarding the changes coming to the game. Among Us launched in 2018, but its popularity exploded in 2020, and the growth in its playerbase has resulted in a more pressing need to update some of the title’s features to better provide for a diverse playerbase. Recently, Among Us Quick Chat was announced, a feature that will make games easier to participate in for those without access to voice chat.

Among Us Quick Chat makes communication significantly easier, providing players with the ability to reference the game’s most important elements quickly and efficiently. Many people who enjoy Among Us play in small spurts, which can often mean finding a random game. Needing to communicate with strangers is difficult enough, but mobile users often struggled to type fast enough to have the sort of roundtable discussions that content creators have popularized with Among Us streams over the last year or so. Quick Chat makes that much easier, and is a welcome function.

In a blog post from InnerSloth, the Among Us new account and chat system update was detailed to give players a better idea of what to expect from the game’s new feature. Among Us accounts will be required to use free chat, and players without will be relegated to using Quick Chat for safety reasons. Accounts will be able to get reported, too, so any misbehaving players will now face consequences spanning from temporary to permanent bans – which will extend to alternate accounts, too. Among Us will now require users to create an account to freely change their display name, too, and if they do not, they will need to choose from randomized names.

The Among Us new account and chat system update will also allow for multiple people to have the same username, and will feature a Guest Mode that locks players to Quick Chat. Overall, InnerSloth highlighted that these changes are mostly being done to make Among Us safe for children, and given the game’s popularity across many different demographics, that makes a lot of sense.

Making Among Us safer is well worth the effort, too. The game is a huge favorite among many content creators on Twitch and YouTube, and those creators tend to have viewership demographics that are surprisingly young. Helping to protect those players with more accountability for Among Us users is a good thing, and as the game adds more content and remains a fixture of multiplayer game nights, these changes will only become more important to ensure everyone has as good a time as possible.
