With the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ free 2.0 updade and paid Happy Home Paradise DLC there has been a resurgence of creative designs in the custom design portal. Ranging from pop-culture-based designs to ones based on recent arthouse film entries, these designs were obviously made with movies, television, theater, and comic book fans in mind. The limited canvas space has been used to create everything from film posters to clothing based on popular characters, and there’s no limit to the internet’s imagination when it comes to off-the-wall references and designs.

Players can (and have) shared their passion for media in Animal Crossing on social media as well as with the villagers they’ve acquired. Avengers, Ghostbusters, Dune, and more have all been represented in Animal Crossing to give film fans specialized paintings for their arcades and home theater builds. For those that like cosplay, there are also a wide array of superhero costumes and designs in Animal Crossing available. Pro designs and the different hats, dresses, t-shirts, and tank tops have really let designers experiment in adding personal touches to their islands that Nintendo can’t integrate into the game.

For those looking to add some theatrical flair to their island, these custom designs are perfect, but they are hard to find. Currently, the only way to search for them in Animal Crossing is to type in the name of the film or character and hope to find some designs based on them, as the search function only checks the exact name. Outside of that, third-party websites also have a more reasonable search function, but ultimately, with so many undocumented Animal Crossing designs, it can sometimes be hard to find the best ones.

Animal Crossing’s Best Film Posters & Costumes From Movies

The funniest and most detailed Animal Crossing movie posters are the ones based on films not made for children or even families, but horror and arthouse films like Jaws and The Lighthouse. Titane and Parasite, both recent winners of the Palm d’Or at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, have t-shirts, posters, and other paraphernalia made with the Custom Design Pro+ app for New Horizons that can be displayed on player’s islands for all their villagers to see. For those looking for more comedy-oriented designs and light-hearted affairs, there are posters based on Luca and Space Jam: A New Legacy that can be downloaded, too.

For those that like clothes, there are all sorts of designs based on superhero films and anime, from outfits based on Deadpool to those based on Evangelion. With star rods, players can keep up to eight at once on-hand and act out mini-scenes. Dressed based on the film Midsommar as well as shirts that match Guy’s from Free Guy can also add lightness to many rainy days and help players create unique villager homes for Happy Home Designer and design their own in Animal Crossing on a Bell budget. Here are a few of the best Animal Crossing designs based on movies.
