Animal Crossing 2.0 Update Drops Early to Players’ Surprise

The much-anticipated Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update has gone live nearly two full days ahead of its scheduled November 5 release date. Fans on the internet began spreading their surprise at the revelation that they could download the Animal Crossing 2.0 update early, though it’s unclear whether this was due to a glitch or just a happy surprise for players of the life simulation game.

Animal Crossing players were thrilled to learn last month that the upcoming update would be more than just adding new seasonal items. Packed with content from new exotic islands players can explore on Kapp’n’s ferry to new vegetables and craftable recipes to the long-anticipated addition of Brewster to Animal Crossing, players were thrilled at the depth of gameplay the 2.0 update promised. Alongside the paid “Happy Home Paradise DLC – the first and only paid DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the 2.0 update had many players returning to their islands for the first time and preparing to welcome all sorts of new additions. It turns out, they had even less time to plan than they thought.

As many users discover, and as reported by IGN, the Animal Crossing 2.0 update went live on November 3, rather than the original release date of November 5. The update needs to be loaded manually and Nintendo has not yet addressed whether the release was planned or not. For now, though, Animal Crossing players are rushing to download the game-changing update and get their hands on all the new content.

Among the biggest additions to Animal Crossing in the 2.0 update are the new crops that players can plant around their island. Whereas previously, players could only grow fruit trees as a form of sustenance, now players can plant vegetables like potatoes and tomatoes, to go along with the pumpkins that are already growable. Players are also looking forward to new hairstyles that they can find on Harv’s island, new villagers and NPCs that will be available, and new mechanics like permanent, placeable ladders that would make traversing their islands a breeze.

The 2.0 update is set to be Animal Crossing: New Horizon‘s last major update, which means that the team is likely going to be moving on to other projects, including another potential sequel. While this may be disappointing to many players, the incredible cultural impact of Animal Crossing: New Horizons cannot be over-stated. Players are just hoping that the 2.0 update will bring enough new content to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to keep them going, perhaps even for years after the game’s release.
