Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers lots of ways for players to design and create their dream island, with one player setting the bar high for how to decorate the beach pier. Every Animal Crossing island has a pier, though its position (east or west) will depend on the pre-set map players choose at the beginning of the game. While the pier can be a hard place to decorate, it’s possible to make it a beautiful spot for Animal Crossing villagers to enjoy.

The game includes a catalog of items that can either be created using DIY recipes or bought using Bells or Nook Miles. The item catalog contains hundreds of things to decorate players’ islands, ranging from plants and pools to candles and couches. Some items can even be customized using Customization Kits, which can be purchased at Nook’s Cranny. The Kits allow players to choose different colors for some of their items to better match their island layouts and themes. Gamers with an eye for detail and design can use items to bring to life lots of creations, including restaurants, classrooms, and even lunar rock gardens in Animal Crossing.

The pier in ACNH is a hard place to decorate thanks to its size limitations and position, however, one gamer has shown it’s possible to turn the boring planks of wood into a dreamy reading area for villagers to enjoy. Reddit user Pookie_ACNL has shared before and after photos of their island pier, demonstrating how a set color theme and the right items can transform the area into something magical. Over on Instagram, the digital creator explained how the design came about: “I looked up a bunch of inspo pictures, but nothing was really speaking to me, so I decided to wing it and try different things to see what would work. I ended up going with a cosy candlelit reading area.” Pookie’s Instagram shows off a number of beautiful designs, and design codes can be found within the user’s Instagram Highlights.

Animal Crossing‘s community continues to inspire with stunning island designs and innovative uses for the game’s items. Customization and design isn’t just achieved through item placement, as players can also create their own pixel art to be used for clothing, signs, pathways and more. ACNH photography has become a hobby for many design enthusiasts, with lots of communities across the internet now devoted to snapping stunning photos. While Nintendo has offered lots of legitimate features to help with top-tier photography, players have also found exploits to help them take perfect pictures. Bugs like the Animal Crossing pool-sitting glitch, which allows players to “sit” inside pools and baths despite it not being an official feature of the game, have taken photography circles by storm.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has seen many updates that have introduced new items, as well as seasonal events. However, once the main story is completed, players are left with little to do on their islands if they’re not interested in designing them. This has led many to call for new gameplay from Nintendo, noting characters and features from previous games that aren’t in the latest addition. Owner of the Roost coffee shop from Animal Crossing: Wild World, Brewster is missing from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, though it’s hoped he’ll return to the game in the future. Nintendo has left the door wide open for future updates, and will hopefully announce new content soon.
