Although Hornsby is one of over 400 recruitable villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, he is definitely a standout for his special birth date and quirky personality. He is one of nine rhinoceros villagers in the Animal Crossing series, seven of which are in New Horizons. Hornsby’s birthday, interests, and behavior are unique even to villagers of the same species or personality type, making him one of the more underrated villagers in ACNH.

Animal Crossing’s Hornsby is dark blue, with yellowing horns that likely inspired his name. His cute ACNH villager home exterior mirrors him in color and his home’s interior reflects his personality. As a lazy villager, Hornsby keeps a relaxed and messy home. There are plenty of zen cushions, a mini fridge to hold snacks, and stacked magazines and trash bags by the door. His favorite song in New Horizons is K.K. Lament, which he usually has playing in the background.

Hornsby was introduced in the first Animal Crossing series game and has been stealing players’ hearts ever since, although he has not seen the same popularity as other villagers in ACNH. His friendly, albeit sometimes bizarre, interactions with players and other villagers make him an endlessly entertaining addition to any island roster. However, it is Hornsby’s special connection to Animal Crossing: New Horzions’ release and one-of-a-kind charms that make him deserving of more attention.

How Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Hornsby Is A Unique Villager

Just as all ACNH villagers do on their birthdays, Hornsby celebrates with a party at his house on March 20. His Zodiac sign is Pisces, so it is even more amusing that he can often be found fishing for dinner around the island. Hornsby does not share his birthday with any other New Horizons villager; however, he does share his special day with the the game itself, which was released in 2020. This mutual birthday between Hornsby and ACNH make any island where he is a resident an extra special place to celebrate the game’s anniversary.

In addition to his birth date, Hornsby’s interests and personality are unique compared to similar ACNH villagers. He is the only lazy rhinoceros in the Animal Crossing series. This allows him to easily make friends with players and other villagers. Jock, snooty, or cranky villagers may disagree with Hornsby’s carefree lifestyle, resulting in some of the worst ACNH villager combinations. Despite having a lazy personality, Hornsby can often be found outside watering flowers or inspecting bugs due to his nature hobby in New Horizons. Hornsby does his part in the community while appreciating nature by sweeping dirty areas on the island.

Even though he has been severely underrated as an ACNH villager, Hornsby’s wacky humor and neighborly demeanor deserve more recognition in the Animal Crossing community. He enjoys telling others about his dreams, whether they are about becoming an artist one day or how he thinks the world he lives in might be a simulation. Hornsby is an adorable villager that will instantly liven any Animal Crossing: New Horizons island.
