The Hammerhead Shark is not the most elusive fish for players to seek, but it can be somewhat tricky to catch. Because its shadow is exactly the same as the shadows of the other Sharks, there is no way for a player to know if they’re seeing a Hammerhead or Whale shark. If a player is looking to complete their collections or make a little extra money, here’s how to find the Hammerhead Shark in the ocean and how to catch them.

How to Find a Hammerhead Shark in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Hammerhead Sharks will only spawn in the ocean in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players can usually fish for Sharks from the beach or from the pier. Players should start looking for Hammerhead Sharks after 4 p.m. and before 9 a.m. If a player notices a finned shadow outside this window of time, they are likely to reel in a Whale Shark or a Suckerfish instead.

The problem with this is, of course, that the Great White Shark and Saw Shark are also active in the 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. window. Players will want to be patient and keep fishing between these hours to eventually catch a Hammerhead.

Players can also increase their chances of finding a Hammerhead Shark by saving up for Nook Miles tickets and heading to a Mystery Island Tour during the time Hammerhead Sharks tend to spawn. There may be a better chance to find the Hammerhead on one of these deserted islands than on a player’s home island.

How to Catch a Hammerhead Shark in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

While there is no way to entirely guarantee what kind of fish a player will catch at any time, there are a few things a player can do to improve their chances of finding rarer or more difficult fish.

First, players should craft Fish Bait and bring it with them whenever they plan to hunt for Sharks. Throwing Fish Bait into the sea will attract fish. Once a player sees a finned shadow, they can cast their line. Players can take a lot of Fish Bait with them on Mystery Island Tours to spawn ocean fish there and increase the chances of catching a Hammerhead Shark. Players can also try fishing in the rain. Typically, the rain increases the spawn rate of fish, especially rarer ones.

Once a player sees a shark, they should cast their net and reel it in quickly, as they tend to swim away quickly.
