Animal Crossing: New Horizonsreleased a ton of new fun features for their second summer update. From the return of Luna’s Dream Suite to the new firework shows, there’s a lot of new content for players to sink their teeth into. However, there’s a new craftable item included with the update that wasn’t advertised in the announcement trailer: The King Tut mask.

This ancient Egyptian mask was available in previous Animal Crossing installments, but with the introduction of New Horizon’s DIY system, this marks the first time King Tut’s mask is craftable. This guide will take a look at how to find the DIY recipe to make this ancient mask, and how to craft it.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Craft King Tut’s Mask

Those that updated their game for the July 30th update will be able to unlock the King Tut mask in-game. However, it does not appear as a normal DIY recipe card; no neighbor, message in a bottle, or store will offer the King Tut mask. Instead, players learn the King Tut recipe through inspiration. At some point while playing New Horizons, players fishing may have pulled up an empty can on their line and thought up the recipe for the succulent decoration. Learning how to craft the King Tut mask works in a similar manner, as players learn how to make it after mining a gold nugget from a rock. Most players may have already found gold from striking rocks with their shovels, but to think up the King Tut mask players will need to find gold one more time.

Once players acquire the recipe, they’ll need 5 gold nuggets in total to craft the mask. Unlocking the recipe requires 1 gold nugget already, so players will need to find 4 more. Provided they haven’t used up all their gold in other crafting recipes or sold it all for the large sum of bells they yield, players may have enough gold already in their home storage. In case they do not have enough, or any at all, they’ll need to go out and find gold nuggets. By this point, players should be familiar with where all the stones are on their island, so they can go out and collect the ore. Gold is not as common as the other materials, so it may take a few days before players can collect all the necessary nuggets. Spending 2,000 nook miles for an Island Tour ticket may expedite the process, as there will be stones players can harvest on those islands. After obtaining all 5 gold nuggets, players can finally craft their King Tut mask.

Now that the mask is crafted, how do players use the mask? There are a number of ways. The most obvious choice is to wear it, to channel their inner pharaoh. However, this mask has a unique side-effect: causing the player to trip randomly when they wear it. Luck was a mechanic featured in previous Animal Crossing titles, and the King Tut mask, along with other items, seems to offer some return of the feature. The King Tut mask can be placed in one’s home as a decoration, which would fit right in with an ancient Egyptian or museum theme; the game already has pyramids and sphinxes! Perhaps the most lucrative use for the King Tut mask is to sell it for the whopping price of 50,000 bells. However, 5 gold nuggets sell for 10,000 each, so the player isn’t making more for crafting the mask. If the mask were to be a hot item at Nook’s Cranny it would sell for more, so players should know how to make King Tut’s mask to take advantage of that deal. That, or spook their friends with it.
