The perfect beach is vital to any player’s island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This guide will help players with helpful tips and ideas for designing the ideal beach. Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ level of customization goes much farther than any other entry in the history of the series. Players can change almost every aspect of their island from the interior and exterior of their home, the plant life from flowers, trees, and shrubs, and the location of local neighbors homes and who decides to live on their islands. Villagers are a huge part of the entire Animal Crossing experience as they populate the island and each villager comes along with their own unique personalities. Ideally, players can do anything with their island and the only real limitation are their imaginations. One of the largest features introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ability to craft items using natural resources found on the island. Players can shake every tree, dig holes, and catch every fish and bug to help customize their island. The setting unique to Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a tropical island where players can create their perfect island experience. Every island needs a beautiful beach and this guide will help players with design tips for the perfect beach.

Beaches have the benefit of being the only plot of land that coconut palm trees can spawn from. Not only can coconuts be sold for Bells, but players will want to have as many as them (strategically) placed around their islands. Beaches surround the island from the left, bottom, and right. For the top part of the island, each island has its own “secret” beach that can only be accessed by climbing down for a ladder. Also, players will eventually have Redd visit their island to sell some of his counterfeit or legit paintings. The secret beach can be customized too, as with every other corner of the island. Although, players cannot terraform their beaches when compared to the rest of the island. Players can dig holes and plant trees or hide items, but changing the landscape of the beach themselves is impossible. This is one of the very few limitations for design in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. A proper beach is meant to invoke a sense of relaxation and freedom and this guide will help players capture that feeling for their island’s beaches.

Beach Designs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

There are a few essential items to help create the perfect beach. Most of which can be collected in a variety of ways. All of these items are either purchasable at Nook’s Cranny, can be found from popping balloons that are floating by, can be found from shaking trees (each day 2 items can be found from shaking trees), or by finding the recipe washed up on the beach in a bottle. Here are some essential items for each player’s beach.

  • Beach Chair: A beach chair is needed for any island. It is recommended once the player has collected one, they head over to the Resident Hall and respect more from the Nook machine. The duplicates will appear in the mail within the next day. Make sure to grab as many as you feel is necessary for your island. It is recommended to purchase 8 for each side of the island so players have a place to lounge when friends come by.
  • Lifeguard Chair: Safety First! While players cannot actually sit on the lifeguard chair itself, players can set it up near the water to give a vibe that some are out there protecting the lives of potentially drowning players (even though players cannot swim in this entry, leave it to the imagination).
  • Beach Volleyball: These come in a variety of colors and are high in value for the beach design. Beach volleyball is such a fun sport, even though players can’t participate in the game.
  • Surf Boards: This one is self-explanatory. Surfers go to the beach to catch sick waves and having surfboards on display help push the narrative of it being a fun and social setting.
  • Sand Castle: Another one that speaks for itself. There is no better location than the beach for a sandcastle.
  • Bonfire: Players can craft this item and place it on the beach. Players can even take it an extra step by placing stumps around the bonfire. Here, players can tell scary stories, laugh over a drink, or roast marshmallow (no one can actually do this but it’s fun to imagine)
  • Portable Radio: What is a beach without some music? The portable radio can lie directly in the sand, soothing its listeners with music from all over the Animal Crossing universe. KK Slider will serenade beach dwellers with his melody and entrance them with his music. It’s also nice to hear the music play over the sound of crashing waves on the beach.

The placement of palm trees is also essential to the island experience. Players can plant coconuts and get palm trees out of them. Instead of waiting for them to grow, players can pull out the existing palm trees by eating fruit and using the strength that comes from the fruit to use a shovel and lift it out of the ground. This allows players to select the perfect location for the palm tree, whether it be over a beach chair to provide shade or near the surfboards to add to the island aesthetic. Animal Crossing: New Horizons toolkit leaves the player so much power to the player to make mistakes, fail, rebuild, and try again. The beach is just the tip of the iceberg since it comes along with the island. More hardcore Animal Crossing players have created landmarks like local arcades, coffee shops, graveyards, and orchards for their islands. The beach may be the easiest to get comfortable with customizing due to the limited experience, making it the perfect training area for players who wish to grow their exterior and interior design skills. Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows players to create their perfect island experience.
