Animal Crossing fans have proven themselves to be a creative bunch, making all kinds of impressive landscape and island designs with Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ tools. The most fundamental part of Animal Crossing series customization, however, is the player house, and the new personalization abilities in New Horizons have allowed players to make some truly great room designs.

New Horizons has a ton of interesting furniture and wallpapers – including some intricate, moving wallpapers – for players to choose from, but what really makes its home designs impressive is the amount of customization players have access to. New Horizons’ design tools allow players to draw whatever they want and place it on floors and walls, and certain furniture items can be adjusted to suit the color palette of a particular room.

These tools have led to plenty of unique home layouts from fans. Here are some of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ coolest player-created room designs, which should help inspire other players to produce some similarly interesting homes.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Most Impressive Room Designs

Moon Room

Reddit user ThaiTeaMochi earned the upvotes of thousands of fellow New Horizons players with this starry room design. It’s heavily reliant on the star-patterned wallpaper and floor textures, but the tasteful placement of other glowing, space-themed objects – and especially the rocking sheep in the corner – really helps sell room’s sleepy feel.

Bright Kitchen

This kitchen from Reddit’s lunathelark feels incredibly inviting, thanks to the plants, white tiles, light wood furniture, and yellow accents. New Horizons’ house upgrades let players customize multiple rooms, so players might want to try turning one of them into a kitchen like this one.

Minecraft Bedroom

Reddit user EpicPickles01 used New Horizons’ aforementioned design tools to make this awesome Minecraft-inspired room. It’s sparse, but entirely unique among Animal Crossing’s other houses.

Bookstore/Library

This bookstore layout from Reddit user adamislolz has a great combination of dark furniture that nails the aesthetic, and it could also work well as a library.

Pink Sewing Studio

Twitter user Euphoriasis’ sewing room design has an adorable pink-and-white color scheme, made even better when combined with the cute, pastel-colored clothing on display.

“Witchy Room”

This room from Twitter user Big Baby makes great use of many different odds-and-ends that somehow mesh together under the “witchy” aesthetic. The occult rug, skull, and cauldron are particularly nice touches, especially when paired with the many Animal Crossing plant furniture items, which work to soften things up a bit.

Spa Room

Reddit user finessedough’s spa room design combines a variety of differently themed items into a cohesive, relaxing look.

Vaporwave Space

Relying heavily on New Horizons’ custom designs to great effect, Reddit user Larssmaller’s pink-walled, checkered-floored room perfectly captures the vaporwave look.

Soft Living Room

This bright living room from Twitter’s lady ivy makes a use of a unique combination of brick walls, soft colors, and plants, and the random jukebox somehow doesn’t feel out of place.

Crowded-But-Cozy Kitchen

This final example from Twitter user Tiffany should feel like a complete mess, with clutter and decorations everywhere. But there’s an order to the madness, and it ends up looking cool and cozey – like maybe it’s the home of someone’s chill but messy aunt. It just goes to show, when creating a space, it’s the little, intricate details in New Horizons that matter.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons released on March 20, 2020, for the Nintendo Switch.
