Animal Crossing New Horizons introduces a brand new Vaulting Pole item which allows players to jump across rivers on their islands. This guide will explain to players how to unlock this special item. Animal Crossing New Horizons is finally upon us and is one of the most heavily anticipated games of 2020. The Animal Crossing series has recently had a rocky history, not releasing a new mainline title for the franchise since Animal Crossing New Leaf. The game was a massive success and has been beloved by many, but as players move towards the Nintendo Switch, the interest from Animal Crossing as shifted for a new entry. The game was revealed at a Nintendo Direct as a duel announcement alongside the reveal of Isabelle, a major character in Animal Crossing New Leaf, as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The directed ended with veteran character Tom Nook preparing for a place for Isabelle and Villager to return to once they finish Smashing. This excited many Animal Crossing fans and is finally releasing on March 20th, 2020. This being the first mainline entry to be made in HD and brings players onto a tropical island where they can customize their vacation experience. Here, players will build, craft, and explore relationships with new characters. On new addition to the game is the Vaulting Pole item, an item that allows players to cross bodies of water with ease. This guide will help players unlock this unique and helpful item in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

The Vaulting Pole item is important to Animal Crossing New Horizons as it can save plenty of time for traversing the island. Also, depending on how the player decides to layout their island via terraforming, some parts of the islands can be only unlocked when achieving the Vaulting Pole item. This means resources, weeds, and potentially new territory to craft and create homes in is completely locked behind this item. Usually, in order to cross rivers, the player would need to create bridges in previous entries. While this is possible, the Vaulting Pole just makes it easier to get the job done and saves tons of time and resources. Using the Vaulting Pole item, players can quickly cross rivers with minimal ease. The item is alongside the other tools (shovel, net, fishing pole, etc.) and can be created by using the DIY recipes in the game. This guide will help players receive the DIY recipe for Vaulting Pole.

The Vaulting Pole Item in Animal Crossing New Horizons

In order to unlock the Vaulting Pole item, the player must first bring along Blathers on to their tropical island. Blathers is in charge of the Museum on the island, a location where the player can display the bugs and fish they collect while on the island. Blathers will provide the player with the Vaulting Pole item and the Shovel so they can go around and collect more bugs and fish to put on display on the planned museum opening. To bring Blathers onto the island, the player must go around the island and collect fish and bug and return them to Tom Nook. Tom Nook will then send every specimen the player provides to him to Blathers. One important thing to mention is the specimens given to Tom Nook must be unique bugs or fish. Providing Tom Nook with the same fish or bug will not trigger this event.

After collecting around 5 unique bugs or fish, Tom Nook will receive a phone call from Blathers about opening a tent on the island. If the player is interested (which they should be), Tom Nook will provide the player with a campsite package for the museum tent. The player now has the option to go around the island and find the perfect location for where they want to place the tent. Once the tent placement has been selected, Blathers will arrive tomorrow in real-world time. Players can opt to wait until the next day, but an alternative method would be going into the Nintendo Switch’s settings and changing the date forward by one day. This has several implications, including new items spawning out on the island, but also saves the player time to collect the Vaulting Pole. Now that it is the next day, head to the newly erected tent where the player placed it and speak with Blathers. Blathers will assign the player with a task and provide them with the Vaulting Pole item to help them complete it.

Animal Crossing New Horizons adds several new gameplay features including the introduction of Nook Miles. This acts as a secondary currency, similar to Bells, but these can be unlocked by completing certain tasks around the island. It could range from spending money at shops, capturing bugs with a net, or even taking a photo. Once the player pays off their debt, Nook Miles + will unlock, providing new tasks for the player to complete and cycle through. There is always something to accomplish in Animal Crossing New Horizons, and that is what makes it superior when compared to previous entries of the series. It was very often where players would run out of daily tasks to do. The game functions similarly to a modern-day mobile Gacha title, where the player is rewarded for logging in every day with a bonus. The game is planning to have content for several years to come and entertain its fanbase with events, parties, and special items. Animal Crossing New Horizons is all about creating the player’s very own tropical island getaway experience. While it’s not completely a vacation experience (since the player has to take out a massive loan at the start of the game), the idea is still there since the island is surrounded by a beautiful ocean, being able to customize every aspect of the island and building relationships with other characters is a key part of what makes this game special. Animal Crossing New Horizons is exactly what everyone has waited this long for.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
