Orchards are helpful for collecting and harvesting fruit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This guide will help players with design tips and tricks for creating the perfect orchard for their island. Animal Crossing: New Horizons provides its players with the necessary tools to create the perfect island life. With a shovel and axe in hand, players can change almost every inch of their islands to match their needs and wants. Arguably, the orchard can be one of the most important locations in Animal Crossing: New Horizons since it goes further beyond just being an aesthetically pleasing location. Properly creating the player’s orchard can lead to the player turning a profit each day. Other locations like the bathroom, beach, home, or graveyard customizations are there to help players make the most out of their island. The orchard design is also fairly simple since a majority of the “design” aspect is spend waiting on trees to grow and shrubs to appear. Nature is a bit part of any players island, especially for those who wish to get a 5-star rating for their island. A proper orchard can help players generate thousands of bells each day and this guide will help them with helpful tips and tricks to make that possible.

The fruit is essential for beginner players to begin to generate a profit in this game. Before the player has access to selling turnips, capturing large fish, and purchasing paint, the player will need to shake every tree they come across containing their islands resident fruit. Each island contains 1 fruit that grows natively on their islands. These fruits include oranges, apples, cherries, coconuts, peaches, and pears. Coconuts are the only exception to this rule, as they naturally spawn from palm trees growing in the sand at the beaches. Aside from that, the only other way to gather fruit in the game is by participating in Nook Tours that require the player to spend 2000 Nook Miles to attend, or by visiting a friends island that has a different fruit. The neat and profitable idea surrounding this fruit is that fruit from different islands sells for much more when brought back over. Players can head over to Nook’s Cranny and sell non-native fruit for a high price. When players have a proper orchard with all of the fruit present, they can sell these fruit over for massive bank and this guide will help players design the perfect orchard.

Designing An Orchard in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

For starters, players will want to have at least one of every fruit available in the game. This means having apples, cherries peaches, pears, and oranges. Players will then want to plant these trees around their island. This does not need to be in the location of where the player plans to have the orchard. The player will just need to have around 10-20 of each fruit before they begin work on the orchard. The fruit will act as an outline for the orchard. Once the player has 10-20 of each fruit, then it begins terraforming a location for their island. It is recommended to place the orchard in a location with a wide and open space. Once the layout is done, its time to bring out the shovel and begin planting.

In order for fruit to grow, they need to be at least two spaces apart from right to left, and 1 space apart from up to down. Using the Custom Design app on the Nook Phone, players will want to create small designs to put up signs to help players identify which fruit are going to be planted where. It could be drawing of the fruit or a word that helps the player keep track such as “cherry” or “orange”. Once the design is done, place it either on the ground in front of the dug holes or create a painting canvas. Now, begin to place the fruit together in columns of two. This makes it much easier to identify which fruit will spawn where.

Once the fruit has been planted, it is time to terraform some dirt paths between each of the planted sprouts. Players can choose whatever floor design they would like, but dirt makes the orchard feel the most like a fruit orchard. Between each section, players can place different items to put on display like a shovel or a dirt cart. Within a few days, the fruit trees will begin to sprout up and players can shake these trees and use these fruit to craft special furniture or to sell for Bells. This is an excellent way to make large sums of money fast, especially for non-native fruit. Also, fruit spawn back once every three days. If a tree is not sprouting up while others are, players can remove the sprout from the ground and plant it somewhere else on their island with a wide-open space. Once this sprout turns into a tree, they can eat a fruit and pick up the tree using the shovel and place it back where it originally was. This moved tree will continue to thrive in its new location. Also, creating benches to sit around and take photos with is a nice little addition.
