Animal Crossing Player Transforms Island Into Cobblestone Croatian City

Inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ new update, a crafty player has transformed her island into the cobblestoned Croatian city of Dubrovnik, creating an inspirational Animal Crossing island design. Situated by the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik is a city in Southern Croatia, and is perhaps best known for its medieval architecture, which earned it a place in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1979.

Considered to be one of the most popular Nintendo Switch games following its release in 2020, Animal Crossing players have waited patiently for a substantial content update for the game, with many feeling that the small content releases and repeating seasonal events were not enough to keep players interested. Animal Crossing players’ patience was finally rewarded with the game’s November 2.0 update, which brought over 9,000 new items to Animal Crossing, according to a recent datamine. Aside from new items, the update also saw the return of the highly-requested character Brewster, and his café, The Roost.

Twitter user Autumnweeds shared some screenshots of her newly-transformed Animal Crossing island, inspired by a street in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The screenshots showcase a cobblestone street surrounded by stone brick buildings on each side, which leads toward a terracotta-colored staircase that guides pedestrians towards a large castle archway. Autumnweeds brings the street to life with wonderful little details, such as various potted plants that sit by the walls, a wooden cart filled with flowers, and some empty bottles left outside, waiting to be collected. A bicycle is parked out of the way by the street’s entrance, and lastly, a custom cobblestone design is used for the footpath to match the buildings’ aesthetic.

Earlier this month, Animal Crossing’s 2.0 update was released, and provided players with a large content update that also marked the end of the game’s free updates. Thanks to New Horizons’ 2.0 update, Autumnweeds was able to utilize the newly introduced castle-themed items for her build, which featured the Medieval Building Side for her street’s walls. The incredible Dubrovnik-inspired island has garnered much praise from New Horizons’ fans on Twitter, with many commenting that it’s hard to believe the scene was created in Animal Crossing.

Autumnweeds’ island transformation is a brilliant attempt at bringing the streets of Dubrovnik to New Horizons, and is certainly an inspired use of the new items introduced to the game. Thanks to the plethora of furniture items and new features introduced to Animal Crossing, along with the early release of Happy Home Paradise, there are now even more options for players looking to bring their ideas to life in New Horizons.
