The May Day seasonal event is back this spring in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players are able to take on the 2021 May Day maze until May 7, and it sports a different layout to freshen things up for veteran maze-solvers. Those who completed the previous Animal Crossing maze will also earn a new prize from Rover the cat.

Rover, an Animal Crossing seasonal event NPC, is May Day’s host. The wide-eyed, blue cat has appeared in the majority of past Animal Crossing games. Rover’s original job was to help players set up their characters when first starting out in a new game, but he’s traded in his role as character creation guide for one that instead leads players into warmer weather.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Unlike many seasonal events, the main attraction of May Day is not available in players’ towns. Instead, the maze is located on a special island accessed by flying with New Horizons‘ Dodo Airlines. To get a May Day Ticket, players need only speak with Orville at the airline front desk. The ticket can then be used any day between April 29 and May 7 to fly for a single time to the May Day Tour island. This is a change from May Day 2020, when players had to first speak with Tom Nook before heading to the airport.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons: May Day Maze 2021’s New Prize

For those who completed the Animal Crossing May Day maze last year, the map won’t be the same this time, and Rover will offer a new prize (SPOILER AHEAD – a photograph of Rover – END SPOILER). However, those who started playing after the event or otherwise never completed the first maze challenge will receive Rover’s 2020 prize instead. Because the May Day Tour island can only be visited once, new players will have to trade for the 2021 prize or complete the challenge again next year in order to receive both.

When traveling to the May Day Tour island, it is important to remember that all inventory items will be temporarily removed for the course of the maze challenge. Players can only bring their creativity to solve the maze’s puzzles with the resources available to them on the island. This Animal Crossing: New Horizons seasonal event is perfect for those who enjoy a more video game-y challenge, rather than a simple holiday celebration.
