A Snapchat anime filter is the latest effect to make waves on social media. Unsurprisingly, with the ability to instantly have a video or image transformed into an anime version, the filter has already gone viral on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. Here’s how to find the filter and start using it.

Effects and filters are nothing new and all of the main social media services tend to offer their own versions for users to play with. In early 2020, Instagram filters proved particularly popular with carousel-based ‘which are you’ filters and effects taking over social media. During the year, TikTok has also seen a number of its effects take on a life of their own, with the green screen sky one of the more recent examples.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Similar to Instagram, Snapchat is no stranger to filters and lenses and its latest lens is already proving immensely popular. One of the reasons for this, is that it does not rely on simply applying a generic image on top of the live feed. Instead, it provides users with a customized anime face that’s based on the user’s face. The end result being the variety of faces that can now be seen across various social media services, under the #animefilter hashtag.

Where To Find & How To Use Anime Filter

Getting started with the filter and creating your own anime face video is pretty easy to do. As this is a Snapchat filter, the Snapchat app is necessary. Once downloaded and an account is created, the user can enable the specific filter through one of two ways. The first is by tapping on a link to the filter shared by someone else. For example, this link. Once clicked, the link will direct the user to the right filter and allow them to add it to their Snapchat account. However, the shared link will only work if accessed on a smartphone that has the Snapchat app downloaded on. The other way is to simply enable the filter directly through the Snapchat app.

To do this, open Snapchat and while on the Camera tab, tap on the smiley face icon to access the general lens and effects section. Then tap on the search icon in the top-left corner and search for “anime.” The actual official name of the Snapchat lens is “Anime Style” and this should immediately show up as the top result when searching. Once found, tap the effect and the Snapchat camera will launch with the anime face filter enabled and ready to use.
