David Dastmalchian is unsure if he’ll return as Kurt in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding in many different ways, such as with new franchises and the multiverse. However, Marvel Studios is also working on several sequels, with Ant-Man 3 the latest to go into production. The movie was originally announced back in late 2020 with Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly returning to reprise their roles as Ant-Man and Wasp, respectively.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is confirmed to hit theaters in early 2023 and recently started filming in London. In addition to the returns of Rudd and Lilly as the titular size-changing heroes, the upcoming MCU movie will see Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer return as Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. Ant-Man 3‘s cast also includes Kathryn Newton in the role of Cassie Lang as well as the return of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror after Loki. However, some of the franchise’s recurring cast members might not be returning.

David Dastmalchian previously appeared in the first two Ant-Man movies as Kurt, the Russian hacker who became friends with Scott. Dastmalchian is currently doing press as part of the promotional tour for The Suicide Squad, where he plays Polka-Dot Man, and Comicbook asked him if he’d be returning to the MCU after his stint with the DC Extended Universe. Unfortunately, the actor is in the dark about whether or not he’ll return as Kurt in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, saying “Well, unfortunately with the world of Ant-Man… I honestly don’t know where I’m going next.”

Kurt has had a small role in the Ant-Man franchise so far, with him, Luis (Michael Pena), and Dave (T.I.) making up the fan-favorite comedic trio affectionately known as the Antourage. The full group’s absence in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was already confirmed after T.I. was dropped from the sequel due to sexual abuse allegations. Michael Pena also previously mentioned that he didn’t know if he was going to return.

Since Ant-Man 3 is currently filming, Dastmalchian not knowing whether or not he is involved could be a bad sign for the possibility of him appearing. Unless Marvel is hoping to keep Kurt’s role in Ant-Man 3 a secret for some reason, it would seem that Dastmalchian would know by now if he needs to go to London for filming. While some fans will be disappointed to see him left out of the Phase 4 movie, Kurt could’ve been left out due to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania leaning further into the Quantum Realm. If Dastmalchian does indeed miss out on the trilogy capper, hopefully Marvel Studios will find another creative way to bring him back.
