A new image from Edgar Wright’s Last Night In Soho shows Anya Taylor-Joy’s Sandie and Matt Smith’s Jack taking a late night stroll. Joy’s Sandie is a 60s singer, idolized by Thomasin McKenzie’s Eloise, while Smith’s Jack is the man who may or may not have murdered her all those years ago. Last Night In Soho‘s second trailer revealed more about Wright’s follow-up to Baby Driver, showing McKenzie’s Eloise having dreams about, or possibly even traveling back in time to, the era of Sandie and Jack’s youth. She also seems to witness Sandie’s murder, which she tries to report to cops in the present day who don’t know what make of Eloise’s claims.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Last Night In Soho is Wright’s first non-documentary feature since 2017’s Baby Driver, making his return to the big screen all the more anticipated. The film will also star the late Diana Rigg in her final film role, with Terrence Stamp, and Rita Tushingham also starring. Last Night In Soho recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival and early reviews for the film praised Wright’s genre-bending mind-twister, but genre isn’t the only thing the film deserves praise for.

A new image from Fandango shows Sandie and Jack walking down a dark London street in all their 60s splendor. Joy is sporting a 60s appropriate hairdo and a sleek white leather trench coat. Smith is in a suit and tie and the pair are holding hands. Both seem to be happy wherever they are, likely somewhere in the titular London neighborhood of Soho. Check out the full image below:

Besides the thrill of the genre, which seems to be a mix between time-traveling dreamscape philosophy and a more straight-forward murder by numbers mystery, Last Night In Soho‘s neon lit cityscape inspires both feelings of comfort and something much more insidious. So, too, does the fashion at play – Sandie emulates every 60’s icon imaginable, something Eloise will begin to do in her own life.

Whether or not Eloise is losing her mind or if she’s truly contacting the distant past remains to be seen. What is clear is that something will be haunting her and it may have something to do with Jack, who looks to still be alive at the same time as Eloise. The aspiring fashion designer is clearly in danger, but from what remains a mystery that will be answered when Last Night In Soho hits theaters this October.
