An Apple Watch can tell so much more than just time, and many find its health-tracking capabilities an invaluable asset. Furthermore, when it comes to connectivity issues, restoring an Apple Watch back to working condition can be quite easy to do, although if the screen on a Series 5 model gets damaged, how much should you expect to pay to get it fixed?

One of the factors that might impact on the cost of a screen replacement is the model of Apple Watch. This is because not all Apple Watch Series 5 models automatically come equipped with sapphire screens. Screens that are made out of tougher sapphire crystal material are usually reserved for special edition models or LTE-capable Apple Watches. In contrast, base models, such as a GPS-only Series 5, mostly come with less rigid Ion-X displays.

If an Apple Watch 5’s Ion-X glass gets cracked and needs replacing, getting its screen replaced from an official Apple service center will cost owners $299. Of course, this only applies to GPS-only models, including the Apple Watch Nike Series 5. Getting the sapphire glass screen replaced on the cellular-equipped versions of the same models will cost about $50 more. The screen replacement price of the Series 5 stainless steel and Hermes variants costs $399, while the Titanium Edition can go as high as $499. Replacing the screen of an Apple Watch 5 Ceramic Edition will cost the most, thanks to a whopping $800 price tag.

Things To Consider Before Sending An Apple Watch In For Service

The minimum expenditure from getting a screen replacement of just a base Series 5 model costs as much as a brand new Series 3. Before owners send their smartwatch in for service, it’s best to first check if the damage on their Apple Watch’s screen is still covered by warranty to avoid spending a fortune. Apple offers a one-year limited warranty to owners of the base models, while Hermes and Apple Watch Edition owners get up to two years.

Cracked screens that are damaged due to manufacturing issues are fully covered by Apple’s warranty, while any damage done accidentally isn’t. However, owners can still get any accidental damage on their Apple Watch repaired as long as they have AppleCare+. Furthermore, owners should make sure to charge and unpair their Apple Watch 5 before sending it for service. It’s also worth noting that getting a repaired smartwatch back from Apple means having to set it up like new again, so perhaps learning how to reset it beforehand might come in handy.
