Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise won’t be found on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime, but they have found a home on HBO Max. Co-produced and distributed by Warner Bros., the shared fictional universe officially launched with the Godzilla reboot in 2014. Though the collective title has garnered attention from the release of big-budget feature films, the MonsterVerse is a multimedia franchise consisting of books, comics, and merchandise. A tie-in Netflix series titled Skull Island is also in development.

The MonsterVerse came to fruition when Legendary developed an official reboot of Toho’s Godzilla franchise. The success set forth the plans to not only develop sequels centered on the iconic creature but to also reintroduce a fellow beast in King Kong. After rebooting another major piece of the MonsterVerse with Kong: Skull Island, the franchise was able to lay more foundation into the lore of the “Titans” in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
