A new Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Curse of the Shadows preview teases the return of Sardo. The hit children’s horror anthology series originally premiered in 1990 on Canadian broadcaster YTV, and on Nickelodeon in 1991, airing for 5 seasons. Each episode entailed a story of fright and suspense, told by a gathering of young teens calling themselves “The Midnight Society”. After wrapping in 1996, Are You Afraid Of The Dark? would resume in 1999 for another 2 seasons, with only 1 member of the original Midnight Society returning, before it was rebooted into the limited series Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Dark Carnival, with an all-new cast in 2019.

Courtesy of the Nick Rewind YouTube channel, the extended preview for the all-new season of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Curse of the Shadows teases the return of Sardo, a classic character featured in some of the original Midnight Society stories from the early 90s. In the sneak peek, a teen enters a shop with the name “Sardo’s Magic Mansion” clearly visible on the storefront. He procures a mysterious book and attempts to cast a spell before being attacked by an unseen menace. You can watch the video below.

Sardo was initially introduced in season 1, episode 6 — “The Tale of the Super Specs” and played by voice actor Richard M. Dumont (Assassin’s Creed Valhalla). He was the owner of Sardo’s Magic Mansion and purveyor of cursed/magical items (typically unbeknownst to him) unto the teens at the center of the tales. Neither friend nor foe, Sardo, an amateur magician in his own right, was first and foremost a businessman, often willing to incur a loss on a deal to finalize a sale.

Being that Sardo and his Magic Mansion are constructs of Gary and Tucker, with many of their stories inspired by their father owning a magic shop, it’s possible that the Society member at the helm of this new tale is related to them. Could the storyteller be the son or daughter of a character from the original series? That mystery is likely to be revealed when Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Curse of the Shadows premiers Friday, February 12th.
