The Fjordur: Creature Vote is asking Ark: Survival Evolved players to choose the new dinosaur that will be added to the free DLC map. Developed by Nekatus and Trappel, Ark: Fjordur is a free non-canonical DLC map for Ark: Survival Evolved and brings new creatures and Nordic-inspired locales to the survival game. The DLC expands on the dinosaur-based survival game and its 176 distinct creatures, prehistoric settings, and expansive base building. And while there is already a wide selection of creatures to tame in the vanilla Ark game, the modding team is looking to add another interesting specimen to their creation.

Studio Wildcard has already moved on to the sequel for Ark: Survival Evolved, having enlisted Vin Diesel for Ark 2. The Xbox Series X/S exclusive title was revealed during The Game Awards 2020 and is scheduled to launch in 2022. The developers promised that Ark 2 will continue the “dramatic eons-spanning story of humankind’s evolution,” though it isn’t clear how the game will play or whether the studio will stay true to the franchise’s original formula. The survival genre has evolved tremendously since Ark: Survival Evolved launched, meaning Ark 2’s gameplay can take on many forms. Despite Studio Wildcard moving on to its next project, Ark: Survival Evolved modders are still expanding the original game, and future updates are on the way.

Listed on the official Ark: Survival Evolved forum, Survive the Ark, the Ark creature vote is asking players to vote for the next creature to be added to the free DLC map, Ark: Fjordur. The vote is between the top 10 creatures that “were selected from the top 10 upvoted creatures during the creature submission process.” The poll ends on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at which point the developers will read through the forum threads and design the creatures based on the descriptions – similar to Minecraft’s mob vote. The vote is between the Giant Bison, Rhyniognatha, Titanoceratops, Desmodus Draculae, Armadillosuchus, Carcharodontosaurus, Myotragus, Bastion Beetle, Sivatherium, and the Pyroraptor. The poll itself utilizes RCV, in which players rank the options from “want the most” to “want the least,” to ensure the winner is a creature everyone is happy with.

Ark: Fjordur has seen a plethora of updates since its initial launch, including the completion of its cold map made up of its four islands – Vardiland, Vannaland, Bolbjord, and Balheimr. Most recently, the modders added the Fjordhawk to the DLC map, a calculating Omnivore that follows predators from above and swoops down to catch an easy meal. The Fjordhawk can be tamed, too, at which point it will provide companionship during hunts and point out injured prey. Ark: Fjordur is an officially sponsored mod and it seems its future development is far from over.

While the excitement surrounding Ark 2 and the Ark animated series mounts, it’s encouraging to know Ark: Survival Evolved is not being left behind. Nekatus and Trappel’s Ark: Fjordur is an expansive DLC and the Ark creature vote will pinpoint the next interesting creature or dinosaur to roam the Nordic-inspired islands.
