Zack Snyder is known for making cameos in his films, and while he doesn’t make a true cameo in The Army of the DeadSnyder can be spotted in the latest zombie heist flick. There are plenty of easter eggs throughout Army of the Dead— though some have been more well-received than others, as some viewers were not pleased with Sean Spicer’s cameo in the movie — including references to the Snyder Cut, robot zombies, and aliens. But if you want to catch Snyder’s appearance, you’ll have to watch closely.

Snyder’s appearances have varied throughout his filmography, though they tend to be more true cameos than his appearance in Army of the Dead. In Snyder’s Justice League, he can be seen in the background as Lois Lane leaves a cafe. In his classic 2004 zombie movie Dawn of the Dead, Snyder can be spotted playing a military man shooting zombies in front of the White House— in fact, he typically appears as a military man in his cameos, as he also portrays one in Watchmen and Wonder Woman.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The first cameo can be found toward the beginning of the opening credits. As the zombies overtake Las Vegas, the opening credits show a Liberace impersonator who is playing “Viva Las Vegas” amidst the chaos inside the hotel suite. A group of topless showgirl zombies chases a toupeed man down the hallway of the suite until he’s cornered in the jacuzzi and torn into pieces. It’s during the chase to the jacuzzi that you can spot Zack Snyder for two frames; in the mirror above the jacuzzi, a reflection of Snyder operating the camera can be seen for a brief moment. This moment happens around the 9-minute mark.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Snyder explains how the accidental shot ended up making it into the final film. The shot was actually caught during quality check, where the creators sit down and watch the film repeatedly to check for any mistakes. The creators considered removing the shot, but Snyder decided to keep it in the film, saying that “no one would notice” it and that it was “good“— but viewers certainly did notice it.

After the movie’s release, viewers took to social media to share their theories for where Snyder’s cameo might be. The Army of the Dead director had dropped a few hints for the cameos location prior to release, so fans were on high alert. Some theorized that Snyder lent his voice to Scott’s boss in the burger shop — however, this role has been credited to Ken Theong according to IMDB. Others have shared photos of zombie hoards highlighting their Snyder guesses in a manner reminiscent of Where’s Waldo, but none of those theories have been confirmed so far. Whether Snyder has a second cameo or not, there’s plenty to find in every re-watch of Army of the Dead.
