Arrow’s Mia Queen actress says she would be game to return to the Arrowverse. After the planned spin-off for her character was not picked up by The CW, it did not seem likely that fans would see Mia or her allies in the future again. And with all the DC shows currently being introduced on the CW, it does not seem like the Arrowverse is going away anytime soon.

Katharine McNamara joined the 7th season of Arrow in the recurring role of Mia Smoak (a.k.a. Blackstar), who fans eventually learned was the daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak. In Season 8 she got upgraded to “main cast” status as her character travelled back to Star City 2019 to help out during Crisis and had her history rewritten as the timeline changed. Her new future had her name changed to Mia Queen as she grew up without the violence and heartbreak of her past life, though she did lack the physical training of her previous timeline. Audiences last saw Mia taking up the mantle of Green Arrow again in 2040 after her memories and combat abilities were restored by Dinah Drake, setting up the Green Arrow and The Canaries pilot, which The CW sadly did not pick up.

In a new interview with Collider, McNamara says she would love to return to the Arrowverse as Mia Queen. She spoke highly of her experiences on Arrow, and how proud she was to win the fans over. She was also pleased to continue to get to use the combat training she had received on Freeform’s Shadowhunters.  When asked about the possibility of coming back to The CW’s DC universe, she said the following:

“Look, the Arrow-verse is what it is and I have no idea what their future plans are, but I would jump at the chance to go back and play again. There are so many wonderful people over at WB and The CW and the whole Berlanti world. I love working there and, if they ever need me back, I’m happy to go shoot arrows again.”

McNamara’s attitude toward the experience is very understanding, especially after they had planned and promoted a spin-off of Arrow starring her character and canceled it so abruptly. Fortunately, she seems to hold on to her memories of the Arrow cast being very welcoming, the fans enjoying her story, and the fact that Mia is still out there, continuing her story even if it is not on screen. In her words, “As much as I would’ve loved to continue her story, I was just so grateful to be a part of it.”

Was Green Arrow and the Canaries a casualty of the pandemic and trying to shoot and launch a new series with COVID restrictions? Or did the show just not work? While fans may have eventually embraced Mia, the future Star City plotlines of Arrowwere not always as beloved, especially as fans knew Arrow was coming to an end and did not understand why they were not focusing on the core cast/ storylines. Hopefully, with McNamara’s positive attitude and the continuing evolution of the Arrowverse, fans might one day see Mia Queen again.
