The upcoming Arrowverse spinoff show Gotham Knights has cast Misha Collins as its Harvey Dent. Collins famously played the fan-favorite character Castiel on The CW’s flagship series Supernatural. The actor debuted on the show in season 4 and remained a principal cast member until the show’s season 15 finale last year. Collins’ other roles include Tony in the 1999 film Girl, Interrupted and Eliot Ness in NBC’s time-travel serial Timeless.

The CW’s latest DC-related project Gotham Knights is set to reinvent the Batman mythos for the small screen. Supposedly loosely linked to the network’s long-running Arrowverse shows including The Flash and Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights is expected to distance itself from the Gotham City that already exists in the current show Batwoman. The new series, which shares its name with an upcoming videogame based on the Bat-Family, follows Bruce Wayne’s adopted son teaming up with the children of several famous Gotham villains to protect the city in the wake of the caped crusader’s death. Unlike the game, the series is due to introduce new characters and deviate more from the mainline comics continuity.

Now, the CW has supposedly cast the first of its iconic Batman villains. In a tweet on his personal account, Collins confirmed that he is the new Harvey Dent AKA Two-Face. Posting an image of Aaron Eckhart’s portrayal of the tragically fallen ally in The Dark Knight, Collins jokes that he has “asked if my version of the character could be wearing a bridge trench coat,” referencing the costume he wore in Supernatural for many years. The actor confirms his attachment to the new CW show via hashtags including “#GothamKnights” and “#newTVgig”. Check out the original post below:

Supernatural fans will be thrilled to learn that the beloved star will be returning to The CW, although perhaps in a less-recognizable fashion. The experienced actor joins a cast of youthful Gotham Knights leads that have previously been announced. Oscar Morgan is set to play a new character, Turner Hayes, who seems to share a similar origin to DC’s Damien Wayne as an adopted son of Batman. Olivia Rose Keegan is playing Duela, supposedly based on Duela Dent (known in the comics as The Joker’s Daughter), while Nadia Robinson has been cast as Carrie Kelly, the popular iteration of Robin from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

Gotham Knights looks to be a very fresh take on Gotham City, and may not be as strongly linked to the Arrowverse as previous CW shows. While some fans may be worried about the additions and alterations being made to the Batman canon in this take, the casting of Collins proves that some familiar elements are heading to the show too. Batman and Supernatural fans alike will surely agree that the actor is a good match for the ethically-split villain. Gotham Knights is in production now, with filming reportedly set to begin in Toronto, and is expected to head to The CW in the near-future.
