In a fresh and very convincing leak, it looks as though the Assassin’s Creed franchise could be taking its players to India in the next instalment. The latest game in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s series, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, has only been out for a couple of months, but already speculation is swirling as to where the franchise is going next.

Throughout the Assassin’s Creed series’ long run, gamers have been transported to many exotic locales. From the golden shores of Nassau in Black Flag to the smoggy streets of Victorian London in Syndicate, the world is just waiting to be explored. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, fans are even able to visit the mythical Norse realm of Asgard. Now, according to a new leak, the next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series could be taking players on another sun-drenched adventure, this time to the dusky lands of India.

Sharing the leak on 4Chan (via TechRadar), a self-proclaimed Ubisoft insider has revealed not just an incredibly convincing map of India, but also a list of additional information surrounding the future release. Included in this information is the proclamation that this Assassin’s Creed game will include all of India as well as Bangladesh and part of Pakistan, it would appear that the total map aims to be even bigger than that of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s. The Ubisoft insider goes on to state that this upcoming Assassin’s Creed title will have a fully written female protagonist, with no option to choose a gender. Apparently, it will be a new-generation exclusive game (AC Valhalla is currently available for both current-gen and last-gen consoles), and the game will be bringing back the bounty system from previous Assassin’s Creed titles. Much like with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there is apparently going to be no naval combat or gameplay.

Should this leak be true, it would not be the first time that the Assassin’s Creed series has dipped its toe into the Indian sub-continent. In Assassin’s Creed Chronicles (India), players take control of Arbaaz Mir in 1841’s India, as he fights to steal back a mysterious item from a Master Templar. While technically part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, the three games within AC Chronicles are classed as a sub-series to the main games.

While fans of the Assassin’s Creed series will by no doubt be excited to hear this news, it should be stressed that this is a rumour, and as such should be taken with a humungous grain of salt. While there have been cases of leaks on 4chan going on to bear fruit, this is certainly not always the case. Until anything is officially confirmed by Ubisoft, speculation about any upcoming Assassin’s Creed games is just that; speculation.
